RM stopped working

Post by unclemiltie »

I had to rebuild my system at work (long story) and when I was finished and tried to start up RM it wouldn't start. RM is run from a separate hard disk that didn't get touched in the rebuild. No problem I say, I can still use my home system.

I use MS' SyncToy to sync my work system to a USB drive and then to my home system so that stuff doesn't get out of wack. This syncing includes syncing the directories that hold RM (I have both 1.78 and 1.79Beta)

Now I can't make it work on my home system as well. This is an iMac running Parallels desktop, Windows Vista.

When I start RemoteMaster, it tells me that it can't find the RDF files (there is no properties file, I can't sync that since the systems are different) I browse to the RDF directory that I've used for months and tell RM to get the RDF's there and then nothing happens. A properties file does not get created as a result of doing this.

This is the same behavior on my work laptop.

This is what comes up in the .err file:

Code: Select all

Adding to classpath: file:/C:/Users/Administrator/Desktop/JP1-Remote/Tools/Current/RemoteMaster/
Caught exception in RemoteMaster.main()!

Looks like you've got an RDF file that doesn't have an openning or closing paren in the file name.

Ah, so it wasn't just me and it wasn't necessary to delete Java, do a system roll-back (Win XP), re-install Java, try running the RemoteMaster stand-alone executable, re-install RM etc. I'd been blaming Java 6.2 upgrade but it seems it might have been my messing about with the 8820 entender.

Yup, same stuff got me. And I don't even have one of those remotes. I was just trying to figure out how to make extinstall deal with a JP1.x remote.

1A631A63 (URC_6820_8820_10820) Ext A.RDF

Should be named

1A63AA63 (URC_6820_8820_10820 Ext A).RDF

At least that's what I understand. It seems that those () are important. I was worried about breaking the remote, I didn't realize I could break RM.

Edited: Corrected

Ah, it's all working again following the filename change. To get RC-6 working on my 8820 (non-extended) I had to change the protocols entry as suggested by binky123 in this posting. Not wishing to teach my granny to suck eggs (and not, of course in any way implying that you're a granny, not that grannies are bad things etc.) should the [Protocols] entry in 8820 Ext A follow suit vis-a-vis the "0058:2" part?

Code: Select all

Good catch Underquark.

There are a few more changes as well. I updated my RDF when I changed the file name.

Binky had me update my list as follows.

[Protocols]
