I just got 2 new Atlas 5 PVR Remotes. I've had 2 that I've used for a couple of years now (they are getting a little worn, so I replaced).

I connect to the old remotes using IR with a JP1 parallel cable.

I just tried plugging the new remotes in using the same cable, and IR isn't seeing the remotes. I then plugged the old remote in, tested and it worked.

The old remote says JP1 next to the pin block, the new remote says JP1.3. The pins are labeled in the same way though.

What's JP1.3? Is my cable not compatible with the new remotes or is there something else I'm going to need to do here to get it to work? Could it be defective new remotes?

Any help is appreciated.

This post attempts to describe and assist in differentiating between various Atlas remotes.

If your old remotes worked with your JP1 (EEPROM) parallel cable, and your new ones are labelled JP1.3 then you need a different cable (JP1 (Flash))to communicate with them.

I have the 1065 remote labled JP1.3.

Ughhh, so now I definitely need a new cable?

Any suggestions on best (cheapest) place to obtain one? I guess I'd want a USB one now as only my oldest PC still has a parallel cable.

Get the Tommy Tyler one. It is by far the best (when you manage to get the driver installed properly!).

HERE are Tommy's. He's the only one making USB JP1.3. His interfaces are the best anyway. Other's have serial versions which are cheaper. You could even build your own, but JP1.3 is more complex to build than the old JP1 parallel version.

I assume that you mean 1056? AFAIK there is no 1065.

That said, I agree with the testimonials for Tommy's cables. And as far as the driver issues, IIRC these have been primarily with the JP1 (EEPROM) cables. I do not recall any problems with his JP1.x (Flash) cables. (At least I have had none, on a Windows XP SP 2 and Vista machines - never downloaded anything, just plugged it in and it worked.)
