The first thing you need are the tools of the trade, so when you go to the File Section, do a search for the word "tools". Once you've found the Tools folder, click on the "Main" subfolder as that's where you'll find the JP1 tools.

The first tool you need IR.exe, this is the tool that uploads to and downloads from your remote.

Next, you'll need either KM (Excel) or RM (Java), as these are the tools thatyou use to edit upgrades.

You also need a JP1 cable, you didn't mention if you have one already.

Very few models can work with larger capacity memory chips.

I'm nearly certain the models you listed can't work with memory over 2K and I'm pretty sure that 2K is the standard memory they were built with. So if your remotes have 2K eeproms, that's all they can take. If they happen to have 1K eeproms, they could be upgraded to to 2K.

Once you see what JP1 can do, you will quickly discover that you can do alot more with 2k of memory than you can without JP1. With the exception of super advanced users (who install all sorts of fancy tricks) it's very rare for a regular user to find that 2k of memory isn't enough.

This is getting crazy ........ or am I missing something here

Still looking for first base, instructions are a mystery.

OK .... I need to download ..."Next download the current set of RDFs, also from the Tools folder and unzip these into a separate folder." .....

Which RDFs are we referring to, ..... all of them , ....nothing here is pointing to my OFA 7562 model.

So far downloaded IR620 and Keymap-Master .......

After 3 days I'm still scratching my head.

The RDFs are not named after remote model name but after the remotes "signature", an 8-character name held within the remote's memory such as "KAM0KAM0". Best to install them all and if you want to delete any unused ones at a later date to save space then go ahaed. IR will give you a drop-down box with "real" names for varios remotes and then select the correct RDF so long as it has been installed.

So I assume that I must download everything on this page .... Tools>RDFs...

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... &cat_id=44

That would be 40 + downloads ??
Yes /no

Thanks for the help

No.

In the sticky JP1 Software Tools thread, there is a link to the latest set of RDFs (a .zip file)

You can also find it by going to File Section -> Tools -> Main

Rob/Greg/other admins,

I think contributing to hotshod's confusion is the fact that the link for "RDF's" in the "Beginner's - read this thread first" thread just points to the Tools folder, rather than to the RDF zip file in the Tools>Main folder (which is PROPERLY ponted to in the similar thread titled JP1 Software Tools" in the Software section).

Thats for the tip Capn, I just changed it.

Hotshod, do this (if you haven't done so already) ...

1) Download IR.exe and unzip it into a folder.
2) Download the RDFs and unzip them into another folder.
3) Fire up IR.exe by double clicking on it.
4) Select File > Set Directory > Set RDF path
5) Select the folder where you unzipped the RDFs and DOUBLE click it, then click OK.
6) Hook up your remote to your JP1 cable and click DOWNLOAD FROM REMOTE.

What happened in step 6? Did it download OK? Did IR.exe automatically recognise your remote? If so, you can now communicate with your remote, which means you can edit your macros, etc. If you want to install upgrades, you will need to download and use either KM (which means you will need Excel, any other spreadsheet will NOT work) or RM (which means you will need to install Java).

Rather than write up very low level step by step instructions for both KM and RM, let's see if you can get past the starting gate and get IR working first.

NOW I need HELP

Post by hotshod »

Is it possible to KILL a remote using the IR and KM programs , or is this just not happening.....!!!!

OK I get my remote hooked up. The IR program is seeing it ok ...... so I delete all old inputs and want to start a fresh. zeros everywhere....

I access an Audio / pioneer amp download tx code and a MS Media Center Experiment MCE tx code.

Load it as per instructions and all appeared to go well ( I think )......

But remote is DEAD, no device lights are doing it ,..... holding magic key does zip....... No key has any response . Reinstalling batteries gets a light , so does using IR program....But nothing else..!!!

This was all achieved using instructions, .... JP1- Just How Easy Is It ? ....... Instructions 1 - 5 ..... Five being ... How do you Load an Upgrade ..... thru to Image 7 & 8 .......
End result ...... zip ,..... DOA
( fortunately I have a few of these remotes so I'm training on an old OFA URC-7550.... that was working 4 hours ago ) ......

Any help would be great ....... Point of note ..... Old bloke with limmitted ability , but can follow instructions ....... K I S ( keep it simple ).....

Thanks

Stick with it Hotshod. It is a lot to learn in the beginning but after a bit of a play it does become clear and is a very useful tool.

Firstly, no you can't kill the remote.

Try this: (it is based in the upgrade file that Rob posted the link to above and either the 7560 or 7562 remote)

1. Open KM and load the upgrade file into it
2. On the top left hand corner of the Setup page, select your remote type (7560/7562).
3. Make a note of the device type (Sat) and the Device Code (1272) just under this.
4. Open ir.exe
5. Go to the Devices tab and click add.
6. Paste in the upgrade code from KM.
7. Go to the Protocol tab and click add.
8. Paste in the protocol code from KM.
9. On the general tab of IR check that you have assigned the correct code (1272) to your desired Device Button.
10. Check that device type is set to Sat (the same as the upgrade you are importing).
11. Download this to either your 7560 or your 7562 remote.

See what happens.

If this does not work then please save your IR file and you KM file.
Go to the files section of the forum and post both files in the diagnosos area there.
Then post the links to the saved files in this thread.

Hope this helps.
