Needed: Denon and Denon-K device combiner

Post by pedxing »

I'm working on creating a grand unified device upgrade for modern (x87) Denon receivers (per my other thread). But they use a combination of Denon (device 2, 4, and 12) and Denon-K commands. I haven't been able to locate a combiner protocol for these two protocols and don't know if I'm up to the task of building one. Has anyone tackled something similar before? I'd rather not mix two device upgrades with keymoves in the interests of space since my URC-8910 is getting awfully crowded!

The Denon-K commands aren't absolutely required for control but some commands, including all iPod and XM functions, are in that protocol and this does but a squeeze on! And if you are using the multi-zone features of the higher-level models the Denon-K commands start becoming very important.

Thanks!

I suppose that you can try to use the Device Combiner protocol. Have you?

I tried the Device Combiner protocol, but it was tough going. My Denon work used the hacked Denon combo protocol, which is all two byte codes and thus unsupported by the Device Combiner. I split it up by device but then ran up against the fact that the DC doesn't support Denon-K, which is also a two-byte protocol. I'm trying to hack it with Panasonic (which ought to be compatible with Denon-K) but am not sure if this is going to work.

In the mean time, I put together two upgrades - one with the Denon 2, 4, and 12 codes and another with the Denon-K codes. It breaks acceptably, with most of the Denon codes supporting receiver functions and most of the Denon-K codes supporting the iPod and XM functions. But some are mixed, so there'll be some keymoves.

Has anyone built an upgrade that incorporates both the Denon and the Denon-K formats used by the receivers? The ones I've seen have been either/or but not both.

I have a AVR-987 using mostly the Denon codes, and a Denon ipod dock that uses only the Denon-K codes (zone 3) and was aiming to build a single upgrade.
