Help with RM/IR

Post by DougD »

I have programmed my 8811 to control 4 devices: a AKAI PDP4273M plasma display, a Scientic Atlanta 3200 cable box, a Panasonic VCR and a Panasonic HT900 HTIB. I used RM to introduce a set-up already done by someone else and learned the all of the AKAI codes using the 8811 learning capability. These were put together in RM and transferred to IR and then downloaded into the 8811. Unfortunately, I lost the RM files for the Panasonic HTIB and the AKAI Display. Their functions are in coded in IR, but I want to now export from IR back into RM to recover the codes for each of these devices. IAll of the instructions I have read only seem to cater for the other instance - RM to IR. The only thing I see in IR are hex codes for each of the functions, but I need the codes in a different format (OBC or EPC, I think) for RM.

I can redo the whole process of learning codes, but I thought there may be a process where I can extract the information from IR and populate RM and then save the files for the devices in RM in case I want to add or change later. Is that possible?

I am also getting some flaky results when I connect my remote to the parrallel port on my computer. I made up my own JP1 cable and when I connected it, there were no problems. Downloads and uploads worked fine. When I tried it 5 days later, I couldn't establish a link, and in the process, wiped out the remote's codes so nothing worked. I managed to establish a link, downloaded the file into the remote and it worked fine. Tried later in the day to establish a link between the remote and IR and the same thing happened - couldn't establish a link and lost the file in the remote. Of note is that everytime I acknowledged the message in IR that a link could not be established, the remote's LED would blink once. Again managed to establish a link (this time I connected the remote before starting the IR application) and downloaded the program. Don't understand why there is so much variability in the connection process. Any advice appreciated.

Just another reason to always upload your device upgrade files to the File Section.

You can use the Hex codes directly in RM. RM allows you to enter functions by EFC, OBC, or Hex.

RM can import the raw device upgrade from IR, but there are some limitations to that:
  • It will only import the functions that are in the upgrade itself, not any functions that were converted to keymoves. You'll have to do those manually, but you can use the Hex you already have.
  • When importing, it'll give each function the name of the button to which it is assigned. You can then change the function names in RM as you see fit.
Instruction for importing a raw device upgrade can be found here.
