View Newest Post icon problem

Post by pH7_jp1 »

Not always, but most of the time the Arrow icon that has the pop up name "View Newest Post" shows the text rather than the icon on the first thread of the search results, but it is OK on the rest of the threads. See this picture:

It of course works OK, so I would call this low priority. I normally use Firefox, but I checked Internet Explorer and saw the same thing.

I can certainly explain why you sometimes see the text, but I have no idea why you would sometimes see the text for one thread and the icon for another.

The reason why you sometimes see the text is simply because your browser was unable to retrieve the image file for the icon from my server, this is quite common on the web. To resolve it all you need to do is right-click on the image and select "Show Picture".

You're welcome, Vicky.

It is pretty consistent for me to show up as pictured. If I visit a thread and then return to the search page it is OK. I can't repeat it in the same session. The next time it happens, I intend to stay on the screen and do a view refresh and see if that get it back. As I said, it is not really a problem, just weird.

Next time it happens, could you do me a favor? Do a right-click on the image that doesn't appear, select "Properties" and cut & paste the URL into this thread. Then do the same for one of the images that does appear.

I am on the road right now and this morning I tried refreshing the view and that does fix the icon. I will do as you asked, probably this evening. Each experiment is one chance, since once it is OK, I need to wait until at least two posts have happened since my last logon before I can try the next idea. I also have thought of cleaning my cache to see if that makes this go away. Since no one else seems to have this problem, it must be something on my computer. Once I arrive home, I can test on a different computer.

I did as you asked, and in both cases it was https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/templ ... _reply.gif

I will clear my cache and try it again later.

I realized after my last post that I didn't really do what you asked. Here are the results:

The difference is t=9682 in the noshow case and t=9689 when it does show. I only had 2 threads to check. Maybe the next time I look I can verify that all but the first are the same, but I couldn't this time.

This post added a 3rd thread and yes, the second and third (and I assume later) threads had the same properties.

As these come from different threads, the URLs for the threads will obviously be different. The fact that the names of the image files are the same means that the forum software isn't doing anything unusual.

Therefore, I must conclude that the problem is on your end somehow.

Thanks for your efforts on the research part of this.

Cleaning cache didn't do it either. (That surprised me.) I will keep trying anything I can think of, or just put up with it. If I discover anything useful, I'll post it in this thread.

I had a similar problem a while back. {merged thread above} Nothing I could do seemed to fix it and it did go away on its own.
