I will be getting a 8910 remote Monday. It interests me that a $20.00 remote is capable all the functionality I am reading about in this forum. I plan on purchasing a JP1 cable on Monday once I get the remote.
Where is the best place to get a cable and is there a all-in-one package I can get that has instructions, software, etc? I am running a Windows XP machine with both serial and USB port.
There is a lot of information to cover. Any guidance would be helpful.
AV components are:
Pioneer FHP1 Plasma TV
Samsung 1400 Blu-Ray player
Proceed AVP AV preamp
Sony RDR HX715 DVD Recorder
Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HD cable box
Also, I haven't seen a post for Blu-Ray player, or is it the same as DVD?
Some direction on 8910 remote

Unfortunately, there is no all-in-one package. As this is a not-for-profit hacking effort, you get what you get, but I would argue that what you get is pretty darned good.
(1) To buy a cable, go to the Marketplace forum and check out the various vendors there. DIY Gadget and Interface Place are OK, but I recommend Tommy Tyler - the "Creator" himself (Make sure you get the correct cable - for you it is the JP1, NOT JP1.x or JP1.2/1.3;
(2) Read the beginner's documents which tell you what software to download and from where and how to use it - see the link in my sig below.
As a long-time 8910 owner and user, I can guarantee that it will control all of the gear you have listed and if you use the extender software (read the FAQ in the Extender forum) it is a REALLY powerful remote.
Good luck.
