ATLAS DVR/PVR 5 Device Programming

Post by DougD »

Am trying to program the subject remote to control my AKAI PDP4273M Plasma Display. The URC Support Website hasn't got the control codes for this TV. The remote uses JP1.3 interface, but I do not intend to buy or create an interface for this remote. All I want to do is to program in the correct code. Does anyone have a correct code for this Plasma Display? Thanks.

It sounds like you know what the answer is but you do not intend to accept it.

Yes, we have upgrades for just about every Akai TV out there, and no, most remotes do not have codes for them built in.

I was hoping there was a 4 digit code available that could be simply entered into the remote as opposed to buying or building a new interface cable (which I don't have because the Atlas remote is a JP1.3 interface (which I can't find any details on any website)), programming up the new command codes ( I only want to turn the thing on and off with the Atlas controller) through IR and RM. A one minute endeavour with the 4 digit code turns into a much longer process. I guess that is the problem with the second tier OEMs like AKAI. Their manfucturing numbers don't seem to support the development of command codes for universal remotes.

Each of those 4-digit codes that you refer to represent a device upgrade, it's just that the "upgrades" are built into the remote. If there isn't a matching code in the remote, you need to load a new code in as an upgrade, which is where JP1 comes in. Before we invented JP1, your only remedy would have been to buy a new remote, assuming that you can find one with the code built in.

I have no idea what you mean here. If Akai doesn't support "the development of command codes for universal remotes" how was I able to develop new upgrades for all the Akai remotes that I was given to sample?

As for your Atlas JP1.3 remote, JP1.3 remotes use the same JP1.x serial cables as JP1.2 and JP1.1 remotes. We've already seen your Atlas remote and have developed an RDF for it (click here for more info).

Hi Doug,

The Atlas DVR remote works with JP1.2 even though it says 1.3. See the thread I initiated some time ago, maybe you get some ideeas.

I have an Atlas DVR remote, also, but there is no Day button, and the label on the 6 pin connector is "JP1". I'd like to revise its programming in several ways. I guess I should get a JP1 cable and try the rdf files in the files area for a version of the Atlas with JP1.2 or JP1.3? Might that work?

There is an Atlas DVR JP1 remote that is already supported by KM, RM, and IR. The SA_7SA_7 (Atlas DVR-PVR 5-Device).rdf is included in the standard RDF distribution file.

Thanks, Mark. I don't know why I didn't see that. I used RM to load the SA 8300HD upgrade using this Atlas rdf and reassigned a few buttons, just to see if I could match up all the buttons with their original functions. It works.
