RM and Multiple RC-5 Devices

Post by semuther »

Trying to build an upgrade for a late model Philips 17" LCD TV/Mon

Remote: URC-8910B02

Learned functions decode using IR as RC-5.
Some functions are device 0, some are device 3.
Both devices require OBCs from 0 to 127.

I am new at RM so can someone point me in the right direction as to which protocol selection I should use and how to setup the protocol parameters.

Any help appreciated.

As it sounds like you are already aware, the regular RC-5 protocol only lets you combine 3 ranges, but you have 4 that you need to combine...

dev 0, 0-63
dev 0, 64-127
dev 3, 0-63
dev 3, 64-127

Now, if one of those ranges only has 1 or 2 buttons in it, you'd probably be better off creating 2 upgrades, where the small range is covered by the 2nd upgrade and you would then program those buttons using keymoves.

Alternatively, you would need to use the RC5/5x Combo protocol to combine the 4 ranges.

Your breakdown of the 4 devices is what I had assumed. It would be nice to have one upgrade file if for no other reason than it would be easier to share on the forum but I found the RC-5/RC-5x protocol in RM very confusing in terms of how to setup the protocol parameters and, in the functions tab, why the OBCs were changing as I typed them in. My assumptions there resulted in a completely non functional upgrade. Are there examples of this protocol usage of RM similar to my case you can point me to? Otherwise, yes, I will go the dual upgrade / keymove route just to get the job done.

Thanks

It would help us if you would post your RM file so we can see what you've done. Upload it to the Diagnosis Area, then come back here and post a link to it.

Done. Here's the link:

Some examples from all four "devices" I need so you can see where the upgrade went wrong: (All decoded as RC-5)

Digits 0-9 should be OBC 0-9, device 0 as decoded in the learned functions tab in IR.

The Up, Dn, L, R cursor keys decoded as OBCs 80,81,85,86, respectively for device 0

The HD function decoded as OBC 57, device 3

the VGA function decoded as OBC 123, device 3

I am obviously missing some key knowledge of how to use the RC-5/RC-5x protocol in RM.

Thanks for any help

It apppears that you have used the RC5x protocol selection for all of your functions rather than the RC5.

The limitation to four device/><63 combinationas on the setup page applies only to the RC5x protocol functions. Since your functions are all RC5, you need not enter ANYTHING in those places on the setup sheet. You do everything you need on the functions sheet.

For each function, select the RC5 protocol in the "type" column. Then you enter the RC5 device number (either 0 or 3, as appropriate), and the OBC, and you should be good to go.

Now you see, that's what I do... making things more complicated than they have to be. Your suggestion worked. Will clean up the file and post it later.

Thanks everyone!
