Slow remote response

Post by saturn_one »

Hi,
I just did my first upgrade on my 8910, i used RCA protocol to program the remote for my XBOX
the problem is, when i use the remote most of the time the signal gets lost by the XBOX, so when I'm holding the original remote in front of the xbox and press a key, the key registers around 5 times a second, but when i do it with the 8910 it receives the signal at most around 1 time a second, and it even does it with single presses, i have to press the key 2-3 time for it to work,
now if i use the learn function of the remote to learn a single button from the original remote, it works just as good as the original without any delay.

can someone help me fix this, it just has the same feeling as when your remote has old batteries, but this time even new batteries can't help! :(

Try Device Combiner protocol in KM or RM. It allows sending a longer duration signal. It might work. Read the Protocol information in km protocols readme file or on the Protocol Help sheet. Likewise, there's help in RM about this.
Before you switch to DC protocol, just jot down key information about this RCA protocol - things like protocol and fixed bytes. You'll need to enter it in DC table in the bottom left corner.

If only some functions need the fix, you can use it just for those functions and use the original protocol you used for the rest.

Did you try any of the existing XBOX upgrades?

well, all the buttons seem to be working the same, so the problem is not button specific. can you direct me to some help on Device Combiner,

and where could i find the exact information that the remote learned from the original remote, so i could post it here so someone could tell me what the difference is.

thanks!

Just upload your IR file containing the learned signals to the Diagnosis Area, then come back here and post a link to it.

oh, and i just tired the xbox upgrades and they seem to have the same delay effect, so no hope there, i would really appritiate it if someone could look at my ir file and tell me what is the key to their speed.

thanks!

See above information edited to RED. In RM, I believe, it's on the first screen, the Setup tab (I can't run RM at work to confirm).

Let's back out a bit. Something is wrong. Forget Device Combiner for a second.
Let's try this:
Download this file XBOX.txt that uses RCA protocol, device 5, matching the learned signals. The one code that doesn't match is play which seems to use the same OBC as power which may well function as discreteON, a good thing to have. Make sure in KM/RM you specify 8910 instead of existing 15-2116, change the code for the PLAY function to match your learned value, select just the upgrade, push it into new, empty IR, then upload to the remote, and it might work better. If it doesn't, I'm sure you'll get help here :D

What I see in your IR setup for CBL/1052 is close but I think not what should be. It uses 2-byte protocol 0143. Learned signals (even the ones with Gap in it) indicate that the built in RCA protocol should work. So you don't need to load the protocol code. And using a wrong protocol might be the cause of what you're seeing. Then again it might not matter with RCA. I don't know.
The IR file also shows a bunch of keymoves, and all of it might be conflicting with the existing learned signals, so starting from a clean IR file would make sense to me.
Disclaimer: I don't know XBOX nor RCA protocols.

Sorry for being late to this thread. I've just looked at the IR file that was posted. I see that the upgrade that's included is using the "RCA Combo (w/duration)" protocol (ie, protocol $0143), did you create this upgrade yourself? And if so, why did you select this protocol when the learned signals all use the same device code?

Now, having said that, when I look at the learned signals themselves, I see that the frequency is about 38kHz, whereas the regular RCA protocol runs at about 57kHz, so this could be the cause of the problem.

Also, I don't see your upgrade (CBL/1052) assigned to any of the device buttons, so how did you test it?

The Robman:

can you please tell me how can i fix the frequency to 38kHz.

well, i created the upgrade since i have loaded a new OS into my xbox (XBMC) which can handle way more remote commands than the original xbox OS. that was the main reason i got a JP1 so i could use all those functions, there are many more functions that i haven't added to upgrade. I'm'm just waiting to fix this speed thing anI'llll get on that.
don'tnt know whahappenednd but the upgrade was assigned tCBLBLi'llll check iagainan.

ElizabethDhD:
I have already tried xbox.txt.txt file and got the same result, maybe its because i use a knock off remote instead of xbox'sox's original one.

Someone will need to edit the RCA protocol using Protocol Builder and change the freq. I'm running out the door so I can't do it right now.

See if this upgrade works the general functions...

Upgrade Code 0 = 22 0A (DVD/0522) XBOX v2 fixed for 8910 (KM v8.40)
AF 0B 3E FE EA 0D 5F 20 22 2A 15 19 1D 1C 1F 2A
08 59 58 56 57 27 F4 3C 1A 20 22
End

Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 AF (S3C8+) PB v3.11
43 8C 11 8B 12 95 45 04 08 00 FA 03 D4 00 FA 01
E0 0F 8C 07 D0 07 BC 8D 01 46
End

If it does, you can use the following upgrade as a starting point...
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... ile_id=727

Then learn any additional buttons from your Xbox remotes to get the OBCs and drop them into the upgrade.

Be aware, however, if you add any more upgrades in the future that use the RCA protocol, they will also have their frequencies dropped to 38k, but we'll worry about that if and when we have to.

When you go to File>Open in RM, you get a dialog box in which you specify "Files of Type". The default is RemoteMaster, but there is a drop-down list in which you can select KeymapMaster.

You don't need to use RM to test the upgrade that I posted, you just need to cut and paste the two parts into IR.exe and load it into your remote.
