I have an Atlas DVR/PVR 5-device with the "day" rocker button on the left hand side of the round portion, see the top left unit here.
How do I program discrete codes for this remote control? I followed some instructions of how to program discrete codes for power on and power off but they did not work. I suspect the reason why is that the instructions were for a different remote, possibly the Atlas DVR/PVR 5-device with a "settings" button where the "day" rocker switch is. Normally the instructions would work but from what I can ascertain the remote with the "settings" is a JP1 device and the remote with the "day" is a JP1.2 device.
The unit I want to control is a Yamaha HTR-5650 receiver. Once it is on, I can control it using the 0176 code but I cannot power it on or off. From the reading I have done I have the discrete codes and all I need is a way to program them using the remote.
Remember, I cannot use JP1 techniques as this is a JP1.2 remote.
Thanks in advance,
Robert

You don't use the Settings button to program the remote. You use the Setup button, the top-most, left-most button. This is the same button you use when programming the setup code for a particular device key (for example when you programmed it to use the AUD/0176 code).
Instruction for programming advanced codes are found here.

The issue is not the remote, it's your equipment. What piece of equipment are you trying to operate? If you go to the Code Search Forum and read some of the readme's there and post using the mandatory Code Search Template, then you can at least determine if such codes exist and, hopefully, what they are. THEN the next step would be to convert them to 5-digit EFCs for manual entry. This thread discusses converting 3-digit EFC into 5-digit EFCs

There's probably a couple of exceptions to this, but I'd say it's a safe bet that all the recent JP1.2 remotes will require 5-digit EFCs.Capn Trips wrote:...the next step would be to convert them to 5-digit EFCs...
Whether those discrete codes work may also depend upon whether your receiver responds to them.Kiwi wrote:From the reading I have done I have the discrete codes and all I need is a way to program them using the remote.

I assumed that because the OP used a 4 digit setup code, he would be using 3 digit EFCs.

I don't think the two have anything to do with each other. We have seen certain remotes in the past that used 5-digit setup codes (where the first digit is the device type), so this is nothing new.gfb107 wrote:I assumed that because the OP used a 4 digit setup code, he would be using 3 digit EFCs.
