I'm trying to configure my parents General Instruments Cable remote. It's got a JP1 connector, and is recognized by IR. However, when I open KM, there's no General Instruments remote listed in the remote drop down menu. Is it possible to program this remote?

When IR recognizes it, what name does ity use?

If IR recognizes it, RM will too. You migiht try RM instead of KM.

IR names it General Instruments Cable Remote (just that, no numbers). I haven't used RM yet. I'll download it and see... Thanks.

Try DRC-400 (KM) or DRC 400 General Instruments (RM)

I don't want to "try" unless I'm sure that's the correct one. I brought the remote home with me (they live out of state). It's already got their TV, VCR commands and cable box programmed into it. I also brought along their DVD/VCR remote, and programmed my URC8910 with it (there was no code listed for a Sylvania SRD2900). What I need to do next is load the DVD portion of the code into the General Instruments remote and mail it back to them. I really want to try doing this once and have it correct for them the first time. I'm installing Java right now to give RM a try.

IR shows the name stored inside the RDF. The only RDF that has the value "General Instruments Cable Remote" for name is "GIDAGID0 (DRC 400 General Instruments).rdf"

So "DRC-400" for KM or "DRC 400 General Instruments" for RM are correct.

Just make sure you save your initial download FROM the remote, so you can always reproduce it and upload it back if something is amiss.

You have to do this anyway, if you wish to ADD an upgrade to it. Otherwise, ANY IR upload to the remote will overwrite what's in there already.

Well it will be a little while before I get back to this, since I've totally forgotten how! I've got the instructions printed (again!) and will be doing some reading....

OK, so I'm finally getting back around to programming this remote. I've programmed (thru the learn function) all of the DVD commands into my URC8910, then loaded them from IR to KM. When I go back to IR connected to the General Instruments remote and try to paste the device upgrade, I get the following error: AdvCode object not found. I also got that error when I tried to create a Macro command for button A (to power on the TV and cable box). Any ideas or suggestions?

If you think this through, in order for us to be able tohelp you, we would have to know exactly what you're doing. So anything that you can share with us would be helpful. What could you shar, I hear you ask? How about any of the following ...

1) The IR file containing the learned signals
2) The KM upgrade file that you created
3) The code block that you tried to paste into IR

In order for us to help, we would first need to re-create the situation, and you haven't given us anything to work with.

You are one fast Robman...

I'm not sure what you mean by the code block, but here's what I've got:

Copied from KM

Upgrade Code 0 = 27 BD (DVD/2010)
65 00 9E B4 09 E8 E8 E8 8C 5C 9C 1C EC 6C AC 2C
CC 4C 84 24 44 04 F8 D4 B0 FC 70
KeyMoves
27 F3 27 BD 34
End

Learned signals from IR

{deleted}

The other thing I ran into was noticing on the GI remote, there's no button for a DVD player (only AUX). In IR, it see's that (I'm assuming) as Audio, so that's what I was attempting to use.

PLEASE do not include entire files in your posts, we have a File Section for files, and specifically we have a Diagnosis Area for files that you want us to look at!

I tried copying that code block over to IR without any problem.

You're correct, I should not have uploaded the file info here. I will upload it to the correct area tonight.
