I am going to build DB25 JP1 interface like the one Tommy Tyler has here:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/simple/index.shtml.

My question is can I put a Db25 to Db9 adapter like this one:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=db25+to+db9+adapter&ved=0CC8QzAMwAw&cid=4089401562802176679&sa=title#p

I have seen Db9 interfaces, but they are expensive for my budget and it seems involved to build one.

Please let me know, Thanks

The interface you linked to is a parallel interface designed for use on a standard printer port. The DB9-DB25 adapter won't help you since the interface cannot be attached to a serial port.

Assuming that you have an old fashioned "EEPROM" remote, you will need to build or buy the correct cable for the ports that you have on your PC, so if you just have a serial port available, you would need to build a dedicated serial cable.

This is because the interfaces for the old fashioned "EEPROM" remotes use a process called "bit banging".

None of the "EEPROM" interfaces work with adapters of any sort.

If you make a DB25 Parallel cable, you will need to attach it to a parallel port.

If you only have a serial port, build a serial cable.

If you have a USB port, build a USB cable.

Adapters won't work.

That's about as clear as I can state it, sorry.

Most Comcast 3 device remotes are JP1.2 or 1.3, and have flash memory. However, there is one model which is JP1.1. Before you build anything, blink back the signature of the remote. Use the 983 command in this link.

Or, if the OK/Select button is red in color, then you have a JP1.3.

That means you have a 1067 remote, flash memory with a HCS08 processor. It is a JP1.2 interface. You should make or buy a cable with JP1.2/JP1.3 capability.
