The file as you uploaded it isn't useable since you seem to have pasted the actual upgrade code at the beginning. I removed that, resaved the file, and opened it in IR without any errors. I then pasted in the upgrade also without error.Paul1965 wrote:I uploaded my txt file
The IR file is for the 8910 remote. Were you trying to upload it to the GI remote?
Mark
I used the learn function of my 8910 to teach it the DVD commands from the Sylvania DVD/VCR remote, then read those with IR. For KM, I selected remote REM400 b00, device DVD, setup code 2010, button code OBC, protocol name Emerson, and Device1 is 40. I entered all the OBC codes into KM (which now I see one error for power), and pasted the results back into IR. Now that I look at it again, I see that the OBC and EFC codes in KM don't match what I see in IR. My assumption is that they should. Is that correct, or am I going about this totally wrong?

Hopefully, you have realized several things at this point:
(1) You do not use Notepad or Wordpad to paste in upgrades, you add them in the protocol and devices tabs, respectively in IR;
(2) If you build an upgrade for one remote (the GI), you can't use it in an IR file for a different remote(8910);
(3) In your case, you appear ot be using the 8910 exclusively for learning, so you have two distinct and completely separate processes -
(a) learning signals to your 8910 and decoding them, and then;
(b) using that info to build upgrades for the GI in KM (or RM), and pasting those into your GI IR file.
(4) I would imagine the Emerson vs. NEC issue is one of bad learns/weak batteries. Your best bet is to post the IR file with those learned signals (and a link to it) for someone to look at.
P.S. By the way, your assessment of the IR file you uploaded as

is quite accurate. Most of your Keymoves in that 8910 file don't refer to upgrades, nor to devices you have assigned. You have a DVD/1642 device upgrade, but it's not assigned to any device, and you have some keymoves associated with DVD/1642, and others with MISC/1642, etc, etc, a lot of attention to detail is required to really enter what you intend.really messed up

Just for the record:
1. I haven't used Notepad or Word to paste anywhere other than the diagnostic section of the forum. Everything was manually entered into KM or copied using KM into IR.
2. I understand that I can't build an upgrade for one remote, and use it in another.
3a and b: correct.
4. I'm going to start all over!
I know I used the opreset function of the 8910 before I started doing any of this, so I'm not sure where that DVD code (1642) came from. At any rate, I am going to try to clear all codes from the 8910, relearn the signals from the OE remote, and try all over again!

What device did you get this for? We have had some combo units, like VCR/DVD units, where the "VCR" used one protocol and the "DVD" used another, and I think it was NEC and Emerson.Paul1965 wrote:OK, here's what I found. In IR, it shows the Power and TV/Vid protocols as Emerson, everything else is NEC1. Any ideas why?

Since it was so far back in the thread, I forgot we were discussing a DVD/VCR, but if you look in the file section, you will see that Sylvania VCRs do use Emerson:40 so it's not surprising that those signals that have to do with VCR functions use that protocol/Device combo. while the "DVD-pure" functions use the NEC1.
If that's the case, and the VCR functions of the Sylvania box are already operated by a built-in setup code, then those two functions (Power and TV/Vid) could be included in your DVD device by using Keymoves from your VCR device.

Both of you are correct. After downloading the Sylvania code, I do see Emerson listed. I am still totally lost on this. Every time I repaste the code into IR, I get the same error message. I'm also concerned that IR see's the AUX button on the GI remote as Audio (that's the one I want to program as the DVD button), and that it's not going to work correctly. I also want to program the "A" button as a macro to power on the TV and cable box at the same time, and don't think that's going to work, as I get the error message there too.

When are you getting an error? After pasting a device upgrade into IR? Perhaps you could upload:
(0) the 8910 IR file with the learned signals you're trying to reproduce;
(1) the GI remote IR file you have INTO which you're trying to paste the Sylvania DVD upgrade (i.e. a DOWNLOAD FROM the GI remote before you tamper with it); and
(2) the KM/RM file for the DVD upgrade which you are trying to paste in,
AND
(3) describe precisely at what stage in the process you get what error message(s).
Somebody could then take a look and try to sort out what's going on.
Your other comment about button names being wrong may mean that your rdf isn't exactly correct.
