Hopefully that's enough for me to reproduce.

In addition to the "Paste (IE)" button at the bottom, the context menu (right-click your mouse in the cell you want the paste to start) also has "Paste" and "Paste (IE)"

I know that you're focusing on de-0bugging stuff right now, but as a feature request, can you add a "Check for updates" option to RMIR's help menu? It's currently only available in RM.

Or do you need a formal request over at SourceForge?

Greg is debugging at present, but in v2.01 development I am concentrating on adding new features. I hope you have noticed that I have already added a number of features from your SourceForge request list. I will leave the "Check for updates" request to Greg, however, as he has already done it for RM.

Hi Graham/Greg,

Did you see my requests a few posts back? If so, what do you think?
1. I would like to see the 'Import' button in the RM-IR upgrade editor removed. I think it will be confusing to new users. We could replace it instead with a special 'Edit->Paste Upgrade' option.

2. This one is a lot more complex. Right now when you have an internal upgrade assigned, the 'Edit' button is grayed out (because there is of course no 'soft' upgrade). Long term, it would be nice to be able to get the 'Lookup Tool' data into RM-IR itself so we could provide a full editor, however short term, can we do something to allow the editor to assign keycode keymoves and even perhaps add additional functions?
Thanks,
Chris

I have indeed noticed the amazing recent progress, and am appreciative.

I do have a comment about the Feature Request and Bug Report lists in SourceForge. I think that a consistent policy needs to be established, as I have seen some items marked "Complete" in a Beta or Pre-release version, while others wait for an official release. Similarly, some of the developers use the "Pending" option, but it automatically changes to complete without the originators intervention even before it's in a final release. I guess I'm suggesting there needs to be a set of "business rules" for using SourceForge.

On the other hand, I may be becoming even MORE anally-retentive in my old age.

RMIR user interface

Bump.

Has there been any consideration of this proposal?

I think when you open RMIR, the first thing you should see is a picture of the remote (the is one of the best things about RM), like the layout tab in RM. Then click a device button (or phantom device button) to assign a setup code or macro. Those details could show on the right like the general tab does today. The other stuff on the general tab (VPT, etc.) could be managed there too. Clicking buttons other than device buttons would let you manage macros, keymoves or learns associated with that button or the whole device upgrade for the active device mode. The other tabs we're used to seeing in IR are great summary views and should be accessible in one form or another, but the bulk of remote management should be accessed from that first graphical page.

A few more specifics on this home/main page I'm talking about. If you click a device button, that sets the active device. If you click any other button, it shows the layout tab in RM for that device upgrade with the button you clicked highlighted. If the button is associated with a device other than the active device, you're given the option to manage keymoves or macros (or learns or special protocols).

Perhaps highlighting just the Device buttons on this screen (and/or the Setup button). Single-click to assign a Setup Code, double-click shifts to the Devices Tab with that device opened in RM in the side panel, etc.

Lots to consider in terms of the actual GUI.

  • Prompt to save before exiting, downloading from remote, etc if data has changed (Graham)
  • More copy'n'paste fixes (Greg)
  • Refactor check for updates (Greg)
  • Add check for updates to RMIR (Greg)

Yes, I saw it.
1. I would like to see the 'Import' button in the RM-IR upgrade editor removed. I think it will be confusing to new users. We could replace it instead with a special 'Edit->Paste Upgrade' option.
The problem is the Device Upgrade Editor doesn't currently have an Edit menu, or even a menu bar for that matter. I am happy to change the text from 'Import' to "Paste Upgrade" or anything else we come up with. Another option would be to turn the 'Load' button into a sort of drop-down button with the choices 'from File' and 'from Clipboard'
Yes, that is a lot more complex. I have had some thought about this sort of thing in the past. We've already added the list of built-in setup codes to the RDFs. This could be enhanced to include the built-in raw device upgrade for each setup code (which RMIR already knows how to parse!) Something like:

Code: Select all

[SetupCodes]
0 = 0000:CA 13 76 FA FD 80 25 40 48 C8 28 08 88 A8 A6 DC
 5C F8 06 26 A6 2E AE 2C CC A4 DA FA,0001:...
Of course the next step after that is to hook into Vicky's Lookup tool to get the proper function names of the built in assignments, as well as the available additional functions and EFCs. We could do that live over an internet connection, or we could distribute a copy of Vicky's DB with RMIR, or a combination of the two where RMIR could check for an updated version of the DB at startup. If RMIR is unable to connect and check for an updated version, or if downloading the update fails for some reason it would just use the old version.

This is all doable, but there's a lot of work there (for the developers and for the RDF librarian!), and plenty of issues that need careful consideration.

I have done a little superficial thinking about this. In principal it looks interesting but there are a lot of details that need fleshing out. No work has been done toward implementing anything like this.

Hi guys nice work on the new RMIR I have a quick question I have a few remotes to setup for my parents so I decide to use the new RMIR V2.01 alpha 7 build. The first thing I found odd was the wording when setting up a special function using a ToadTog when you select ForceON it has Already On and then On->Off should it not say Off->On ?

Thanks and keep up the good work,

I think that error must have been around for a long time. I've corrected it now for the next Alpha. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Graham I have another question for you when I am setting up a special function like this it's a ToadTog

Device = TV
Key = Phantom1
Type = ToadTog
Toggle # = 0
Condition = ForceOff
On->Off = DiscreteOff
Already Off = Blank
Then click OK

If I go back in to edit it or view it the setting have all changed

On->Off now = LAST
Already Off now = CBL and DiscreteOff

Any thoughts on why this is doing this? The weird thing if you clear out both field and select OK then go back in to it the AlreadyOff shows LAST LAST

I will look into this, but it won't be for a few days due to other commitments. To be sure I can reproduce it, can you let us know what remote and extender you are using?

what Graham said ... + add exact name and date of the RDF file since any mismatch causes problems. (I think we're talking about Atlas)

Graham, the on-off reversals in IR toad-togs is an old issue. I have to review my earlier complaint, perhaps back to v7. It also doesn't always happen, I think it was under editing, but just can't remember now.

Graham Yes the remote is an Atlas and I am using the latest RDF for the new 2.11 extender.

Atlas OCAP PVR 3033 JP1.3 (Black)/ Atlas OCAP (Silver) extender v2.11.RDF

I have also opened an IR file for a RS-133 extended remote using this RDF

RadioShack 15-133 Extender with xshift Version 1.10.RDF

and it has the same problem if I open the function a choose cancel it is fine but as soon as I select OK it add stuff to the Already Off in this example I had Mute in the On->Off window and TV and Shift-Power in the Already Off window as soon as I select OK the Already Off windows gets Mute and an extra TV every time I open it and select OK the same items are added again and again.

Hope this helps let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
dolivas
