RM itself doesn't care what the buttons name are, either the generic names or the actual names.
However, consistency between RDFs and with KM is a good thing, since it allows for better behavior when importing KM upgrades and when switching remotes.
The correct answer is "whatever KM uses", but that may not be helpful.
I think there's a fairly complete list in this thread, but I'll do some more looking and get back to you if I find a better list.
A feature request for RM. KM has a "Protocol Help" worksheet that frequently contatins valuable helpful information about how to utilize a particular variant or choose from a family of protocol executors.
Would it be possible to have the text that appears in KM's Protocol Help be available in the Protocol Notes pane in RM?
I recognize that sometimes the specific implementation in RM is more intuitive than in KM and some of those notes would not apply, but the general information about relationships within families of protocol executors (like the HK Combo "Help" describing its relationship to NEC, the explanantions for Sony, NEC and Pioneer that compares and contrasts related variants in the same place, etc.) I find VERY useful and frequently KM is the only ready reference for this info, even when I'm using RM.

RM has its version of protocol help defined in the protocols.ini entry for each protocol.
If someone wants to edit a copy of protocols.ini and improve some of those, I expect Greg would be happy to check those changes into the official copy of RemoteMaster.
I think I still have CVS write access to the project, so if you prefer to email proposed changes to protocols.ini to me, I'd be glad to review the differences (easy with Winmerge) and if they are OK commit them to SourceForge CVS.
You can easily use the protocol help in KM as a guide in any protocol for which you think it is better than the existing protocol notes in RM.

Absolutely! I'd love to have help maintaining protocols.ini.
In fact, anyone can get read/write access to the RM source at sourceforge. I think I have to approve the requests for someone to join the project as a developer, but after that you would be able to submit your changes directly.

Sorry. I didn't look at the file before posting to this thread. Long ago I wrote a bunch of notes sections and put them in protocols.ini and I've noticed several times when Greg correctly or incorrectly copied notes from KM to protocols.ini, so I somehow had the mistaken impression that most of the entries had some kind of notes.
When you put quotes around "improving" I guessed that you meant most entries have no notes at all. I just looked at the file and was surprised to see that is the case.
I did not mean to understate the task of "improving" them.
Actually, I put "improving" in quotes because judging whether a particular edit is an improvement is very subjective.
Quite frankly, most of the ones that have no Notes don't really need them (imho). Those protocols that are stand-alone or really self-evident (like Emerson, Mitsubishi, Pace, Proton) I will have nothing to offer. It's the ones where there are families of related protocols (Kaseikyo/Fujitsu/SharpDVD; the NEC family; the Pioneer Family; etc.) where I personally feel the Notes can be improved such that if you choose ONE of the related protocols, one could be made aware of and/or guided to a more appropriate variant with a well-crafted note.
Like I said, I'll give that a go and see if you guys think it's helpful.
