"Failed to open JP1.2 interface." error w/ URC7780

Post by tecnodweeb »

Hi

I'm trying to fix my URC7780 which locked up whilst downloading updates from OFA (I had downloaded some, then ran out of room on the d/l so removed some and downloaded one more.. which locked the remote and left it with all keys lit up and a blinking power key - same as described in this thread).
I'm hoping initializing it to $FF should do the trick and have bought a JP1.2 cable from diygadget (very quick delivery :) )

Using IR 7.00 b3 (JP1.x selected) and an Ixos USB to serial adaptor (Prolific driver) on COM4 on Windows XP Pro, with all lower COM ports disabled, I get "Failed to open JP1.2 interface." whenever I try to download from the remote (all the keys blink twice, so I assume the connection is OK?).

The triangle on the header is lined up with pin 1 on the remote, I've been closing IR each time and re-opening, I've tried removing/re-inserting batteries, tried unplugging/plugging the USB to serial adaptor, and tried rebooting - all to no avail.

I'm using 10621062_(URC-7780_Stealth_12).rdf

The Tester utility seems to say there's a JP1.2 remote there even if there is nothing connected to the cable - so I'm not sure if I've missed something there.

I notice that on another forum diygadget seem to reply to users with similar symptoms by saying they've 'sent an email' - but that nothing gets posted.

Can anyone shed any light on what's not working here? :(

TIA

Perhaps this will diagnose something - Tommy Tyler's sticky in General section
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7987

Nils just recently posted a fix to Delcom drivers
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewt ... 4634#p54634
but I suspect your Prolific adapter uses Prolific drivers, and Delcom uses theirs so there might be a conflict Windows is having trouble with. I don't know whether you have to use both.

Thanks, Liz.

I've read Tommy Tyler's sticky and noted the COM port settings of (38400,8,2,0), which I hadn't set. However, tester.exe and IR7b3 still both fail (tester results at the bottom of this post).

Do I need the Delcom drivers (anyone?)? I thought they were for the USB cable; the USB to serial adaptor (and its Prolific drivers) are doing the job of appearing as a serial port, aren't they? (Or are they :? ). Will grab those and see what happens.
IR reports
The serial/parallel driver is functioning properly.
USB Error:
Unable to find Delcom device driver.
The interesting thing, however, is that something has jolted the remote into life - every time I try to connect now, as well as the two flashes, I get
UEI
SW VERSION 1062
and then have to go through the language/day/time set up, after which I can add devices, etc. as normal (yay). Devices stay added from before when I do this, but I've lost everything I had prior to the download which locked the remote up (as expected) :(

It'd be nice to get IR talking to the remote properly, as I'd like to back everything up once I get it all programmed in again. I'll post back on how/if the Delcom drivers change anything, meanwhile, if anyone has any suggestions.... :)

Perhaps I don't know what I am talking about (a not uncommon circumstance) but I believe you (Liz) are mixing apples and oranges.

The Delcom driver (iiuc) is used ONLY for the USB version of the JP1 interface cable, and has nothing to do with the JP1.x interface.

Thanks Capn- that's what I thought. They didn't do anything for my JP1.2 cable (serial via USB-serial adaptor).

Yes I can confirm I am confused. To me serial is the 9 pin job, but then USB is serial as well. So really half the time I don't know what I'm reading. The jp1 & parallel world is so much simpler :)
Seriously, he mentioned something about two interfaces, and when I hear Prolific, I know an alternative might be Delcom. Delcom didn't write for jp1, they did it for 9pin to universal serial.
Thanks Capn Trips :)

Actually, they did it for their own custom USB chip (as used in our USB interface). The Prolific driver is fairly common among the "9pin to universal" crowd.
