SanDisk V-Mate AND Advanced Digital Broadcast

Hi there!

I am new here and have limited understanding of how the IR works. But I have searched hi and low for some information regarding the 4 digit IR Code the Advanced Digital Broadcast Model ABQ-1H57-SCV Digital Set-top box using. This is the box I got from Starhub in Singapore.

The reason why I would like to know this 4 digit IR code is so I can get the SanDisk V-Mate Video Memory Card Recorder to work nicely with the cable box and record programs on set dates & times.

I just called Starhub and their reply was that the ADB box is using the RCMM protocol and can't be used with any other devices than the remote control they provided. I don't believe this is true and I saw a positing in this forum that someone actually got a universal remote control to work with just this exact set-top box!

So as long as I can get hold on the 4 digit IR code for this box, SanDisk is willing to support. So please let me know what I need to do in order to confirm this 'so secret code' for Advanced Digital Broadcast Model ABQ-1H57-SCV?

I am very SORRY!!!

1. Device: Advanced Digital Broadcast model ABQ-1H57-SCV
2. Type of device: Cable STB provided by SCV- Starhub Singapore
3. Year: Can't find that but got a new box 2 months ago
4. JP1 Remote model: NO
5. JP1 user? NO
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes, and found the file called ADB_Cable_Box.txt
8. Checked the Pronto file section (at R/C)? Couldn't find anything there.
9. Partially working setup code? I don't know...
10. Learning remote question? I want to understand what is the 4 digit Worldwide BandSetup Code for Advanced Digital Broadcast model ABQ-1H57-SCV? Can that be found out from the file I found (ADB_Cable_Box.txt)?

It's not as simple as you seem to think. These 4-digit codes that you speak of are not formula driven or something like that where, if you've figured out what an IR signal looks like, you can then figure out what code would generate the right signal.

When a company designs and builds a universal remote control, they include a database of known IR signals which are based on them having learned the signals from the original remotes. They then assign a number to each codeset that they create (ie, the 4-digit numbers that you speak of) but these numbers are pretty much random, they don't have any direct relationship to the data contained in the code.

Therefore, even if "One For All" had a code for the ADB box, knowing that 4-digit number won't help you get your SanDisc card working.

The remotes that we use in the JP1 world are upgradeable, by which I mean that we can add new codes to them ourselves. I have captured the signals from an ADB remote and have created an upgrade for it, so if you have a JP1 compatible universal remote, you would be able to load the upgrade into the remote and therefore make it control your STB.

You should ask SanDisc if their video card is upgradeable in anyway? If they have the ability to add new remote control codes to it's memory, then if they shared their format with us and we might be able to create something. Alternatively, we could supply the info about the signal to them so they could create the upgrade.

The 4-digit code in the ABQ-1H57-SCV.txt file is essentially meaningless since it's an arbitrary number used by the creator of the file. Using the upgrade with a JP1 remote would allow someone to control the device. Whether that's usefull to the SanDisk folks I really don't know.

I think you may be confused about setup codes. There is no standard for those 4 digit numbers across brands of universal remote.

In this forum, we have a lot of information on setup code numbers for OneForAll brand universal remotes and certain related models of other brands.

From your two posts, I still can't quite figure out what universal system you want the setup code for (though I guess it must be some software and/or hardware included with the video recorder).

But whatever it is, if they don't license the database used in OneForAll brand, I wouldn't have any information to help you. Even if they do license the OneForAll database, we probably can't help. Rob's file uses a "manual mode" protocol upgrade, which makes it less likely that this is code set that OneForAll has in their database.

So unless the universal you are trying to use can be upgraded by some method of bringing in external files, there probably is no 4 digit code. Not that it is the secret you seem to think it is, but that it just doesn't exist.

I Googled it to get some more info. The SanDisk v-mate is a device that will record TV programs from an external source. It records them onto a flash memory chip which can be removed and used in a laptop or other mobile device. This unit is able to control external STBs using an IR blaster, once you have programmed in the correct setup code.

I downloaded the user manual for it and guess what, the codes are indeed UEI setup codes (eg, Dish = SAT/0775, GI = CBL/0476, etc).

So the question is, does the V-Mate have the ability to load upgrades? If they're using the same sort of chip that's used in devices like the Slingbox, it probably can load upgrades, so the question then is "how?".

You could try calling SanDisk to see if they're willing to divulge this info, their number is 1-408-801-1000

In the meantime, I will see if I can get any info from UEI.

Thank you All for the information and in setting me straight regarding the IR Codes!!!

I will contact SanDisk, but I have a feeling and IR upgrade is something only they can do. It's probably done via the firmware update proceedure..

I let you know if I get some info from SanDisk.
