Interesting problem with new device upgrade for Anthem AVM?
I wanted to build a partial device upgrade for an Anthem AVM 30 to control only Mute, VOL +/- , Main Power On/Off, Zone 2 Power On/off.
So I learned these codes into a OFA 8910 and they work fine. I then build a device upgrade with KM 8.42 and add the device with button assignment into the 8910. When I select Z2 power on or off, it controls the main zone on the AVM. If I relearn these codes into the 8910, they work fine.
When I examine the learned codes they are
Z2 On - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 065
Z2 Off - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 081
I put this into KM, add the device into IR and it only controls the Main zone on the AVM. If I relearn the keys from the Anthem remote, it works fine.
It's not a big deal, I can certainly learn these two commands, but what's going on here. What am I missing here?
BTW, there is also an Anthem Protocol, and I added that into IR as well.

Did you enter those OBC's while KM was in EFC mode (i.e. enter the OBC into the column labeled EFC)?rmassey wrote:Z2 On - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 065

Before trying to build your own upgrade, did you try the Anthem upgrades in the file section?

I did look at the files section for Anthem and I diid not see any codes for discrete on/off for Zone2, although I did not DL and look at all of the Anthem files. I figured it would be quicker/easier to just build my own upgrade considering I only wanted a few commands.
OK, after closer examination of the available Anthem upgrades in the files section, I notice that the unit code differs between some of the files.
What is the unit code and/or is this explained in a newbie doc somewhere?

Hw could you tell whether there were discrete codes in the upgrades if you didn't download them?

As I siad, I did not look at ALL of the Anthem files. I DL'd the first one, I did not see any discretes for Z2, Z3.
I have since DL all of them and still only see discrete On/Off for the main zone. I do not find
Z2 On - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 065
Z2 Off - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 081
in any of the four files.
Although there may be a connection with the unit code, which I still do not understand?

here's some more info...
When I learn discrete on/off for Main, Z2, Z3 here is what I get....
Main On - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 001
Main Off - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 017
Z2 On - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 065
Z2 Off - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 081
Z3 On - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 129
Z3 Off - Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 / OBC: 145
Yet in all the Anthem device upgrade files I only see 001/017 listed for On/Off.
Interestingly some of the files use Main device: 186 / sub device: 34 and others use Main device: 186 / sub device: 33. When I learned these myself, I see Sub Device 34.

At this point, it's probably of most use for you to upload and provide links to the following files:
(1) The IR file downloaded from your remote WITH ALL OF THE LEARNED SIGNALS to which you refer above, appropriately annoated using IR's notes capabilities;
(2) The KM file you created to attempt to replicate these signals; and
(3) The IR file you built using the above-mentioned KM upgrade for UPLOADING to your remote.

OK, this is beginning to make some sense, but can you elaborate a bit.whompus wrote:If I am reading this right. You will need an upgrade for each zone. I am thinking the unit has 3 remote zones (unit codes). Where the main would be unit code 0 (z 1), z 2 would be unit code 1, and z 3 would be unit code 2.
What I notice in KM, Functions tab is all three (Main, Z2, Z3) show the same EFC and Hex values for PowerON, even though I have entered in unique OBC values
OBC EFC Hex
Main On 001 010 01
Main Off 017 138 11
Z2 On 065 010 01
Z2 Off 081 138 11
Z3 On 129 010 01
Z3 Off 145 138 11
if I change the unit number on the Setup Tab, the EFC and Hex values change for all three/six again.
So can you explain to me what changing the unit number is doing in KM?
If I need three different upgrades, this will not work for me and I'll just learn the few commands into the 8910 on one Device. But I'm still curious what all this means.
I'll post link to my uploaded files in the Diag section in my next post.
thanks

I'm no protocol expert, so I can't give any specifics here. I do see, however, that the Z2 OBC values are extacly 64 greater than Main, and Z3 is 64 greater than Z2. There's obviously a reason for that, and it's most likely a "unit code". Do the Z2 functions work with a Unit Code of '1'?rmassey wrote:What I notice in KM, Functions tab is all three (Main, Z2, Z3) show the same EFC and Hex values for PowerON, even though I have entered in unique OBC values

What puzzles me is why both KM and RM allow for the Unit Code but the decoder .dll doesn't seem to provide it. Anthem was added to KM in v8.12 by Rob. Maybe this is a case where DecodeIR.dll is not in sync with KM/RM (it's usually the other way around

Yes, I just created three device upgrades using unit 0,1,2 and then tried each to pwr on/off Main, Z2, Z3 and this works.Do the Z2 functions work with a Unit Code of '1'?
Not sure I understand the use of Unit, but at least I can now control the remotes behavior.
I will prob still just learn on/off for Z2 and use the default unit of 0 for my device upgrade.
thanks for the tips.
