ReplayTV and the URC-9800 Producer 8 remote

Just downloaded the 9800 I just bought into IR, and lo & behold, it already had 0616 ReplayTV added and it did operate the device.
BUT, for some unknown reason, the person who did it scrambled the keys up in some incomprehensible manner. How can I easily rearrange the keys in IR?
I do not want to create a new upgrade in KM, since I have already proved that I am incapable of making that work!

You can do it with keymoves. Would be better to go with upgrade though unless just want a few moved.

You may have mailed the other one in a bit soon. You could have downloaded the ir file from this one then uploaded it into the other one to fix whatever was wrong in it.

Although not "easy" to edit in IR, here's a sequence of steps you COULD follow:
(0) Make a list of functions ACTUALLY assigned to keys when you use the upgrade;
(1) On the devices Tab in IR, highlight the device upgrade in question;
(2) Write down the hex command mapped to each key in the key map section;
(3) Then compare the two lists and and perhaps make a third column in list (2) and write down the hex command you WANT mapped to each key;
(4) Click on "Edit" near the bottom of that page in IR;
(5) Inspect that string of hex code, and find where (after the first 6-8 bytes) the sequence of HEX you wrote down in step 2 appears;
(6) replace it with the string of hex that corresponds to the list you created in step (3);

VOILA!

(not easy, but it'll work!)

I was just trying to do just that.
The only thing strange I note is that ALL of the key hex sequences do not occur. Why?

Some keys have no function assigned.

There aren't as many pairs as there are keys assigned. In this example, the first 8 are something else, and then there are are only 27 more which match key assignments. There are 34 keys assigned.

If you have a raw device upgrade (as opposed to a KM or RM device upgrade), you can import it into RM through the clipboard.

In IR, go to the Devices tab, click on the upgrade you want, click Edit, then copy the raw hex into the clipboard. Do not close IR's "Upgrade Device" dialog.

Now go to RM, use File -> Advanced -> Import Raw Upgrade

Set the Remote to match the remote from which the upgrade was taken, set the "Device Type" and "Protocol > FF" to match what IR's "Upgrade Device" dialog shows.

Paste the raw upgrade hex into the Upgrade Code field.

Note - you may also need to copy the raw protocol upgrade code if the device upgrade uses one that RM doesn't know about.

Press OK.

Go to the Setup tab and change the "Setup Code" to match what IR's "Upgrade Device" dialog has.

At this point RM has defined a function for every button assigned in the device upgrade. The functions have the same name as the buttons, to which they are assigned.

You should now rename the functions to match what they really do.
Then you can use the Button or Layout tab to reassign the functions to the appropriate buttons.

Now use the normal process to copy-n-paste the modified upgrade back to IR.

You're not done yet.
Fill in appropriate text in the Description and Upgrade Notes, then use File -> "Save as.." to save it as a .rmdu file, which you should upload to the appropriate folder in the File Section for anyone else that may need it.

Are sure its just the replaytv device and not all devices that are scrambled? Producer 8's are known to suffer from scrambled keypads. To remedy it following the directions in #22 & #25 in Rob's manual:

No. I went to rm, imported it fixed it, and I think it is OK now. I have a lot more testing to do at this point.....

Moved some keys around, reloaded and it still worked. Tried some more ambitious rearranging, and I got a error and it didn't work. I will try to post some of the IR, but not right now!
BTW: I find RM not nearly as user friendly as KM, but it did work once where KM never did!

Can you be more specific about why you think KM is more user friendly than RM? Most people think the opposite is true.

KM displays are better, more functionality on a single page without switching back & forth. Can't see buttons, functions, and codes on a single list

Geting more comfortable with RM now.
When the interface works (see the post on intermittent communication), I can successfully upload changes, and they do work.
I also found a 1614 device in the remote ( a modified 0614 Replay)and most of it works.

Where in KM can you see buttons, functions, and codes all on the same page?

From the point of view of "more on a single page", KM puts the device upgrade and protocol upgrade on the Setup page, but has a seperate Protocol Help page.

RM puts the Protocol Help on the Setup Page, and puts the Device Upgrade and Protocol Upgrade on the Output Page.
