Problems with import of KM file to RM

Post by egn »

Hi,

I thought I try the new RM and import some of my KM files. But it didn't work as expected. I use the 2k-version of the 7541 and it seems to be that RM has problems with the ToadTog protocol 0180.

Here is a sampe file:

Thanks for your help,
Emil

As you've discovered, RM does not currently support ToadTog in any fashion.

I may be way offf base here, but I don't think KM was really meant to either. It's just that the way KM's device combiner support was implemented, you were able to use Device Combiner with ToadTog.

Looking for reactions from the real experts: Is this something RM should be able to do?

Hi,

this all would be no problem if the checks regarding protocols wouldn't be so strict and if there would be a possibilty to set the protocol code for the combiner devices manually like in KM. May be this all could be fixed by entering a few lines in protocol.ini.

It would be possible to add an entry in protocols.ini that would allow the use of this ToadTog protocol with Device Combiner. The problem is that in order to properly support ToadTog in RM, RM would have to be able to produce protocol code for the ToadTog, and that would mean having an assembler in RM.

I guess I'm not seeing the point to having ToadTog in a DC upgrade (except for documentation purposes). Wouldn't the Special Protocol Builder function within IR be better suited for setting it up (especially with the Notes feature)?

I wanted to have everything to setup a device at one place and not splitted between KM and IR. I found it more logical to build a complete device in KM with all device functions defined. For me IR is only a vehicle setup the macros and to upload.

And I don't think the RM has to go so far (for now) to assemble ToadTog. It would be just enough to be able to enter a protocol ID for the combiner manually instead of using the drop down menu. Or for the standard protocol numbers like ToadTog there could just be a entry to select. It isn#T necessary to assemble anything.
