Onkyo Ht-r510, unable to input DVD code into remote
This is a very impressive forum, I just jouned after jumping from the AVS Forum. A lot of questions have been answered in going through the threads. One remains however, I have a URD 6012 remote and like the size and function. I can input to the 6012 all codes for the reciever except the code to swithc to the dvd input. I am using the onkyo reciever code of 0135. From the forum I have learned that all component codes have byte 2 as 109. With the exception of the dvd which has byte2 as 108 code 060. I am able to program all component input codes which have byte 2 as a 109 (CD, tape, vide1-3, etc) but cannot program a code for the dvd (which had byte 2 as 108). Is there a way to program the 6012 to activate the dvd component without resorting to soldering? Your thoughts are much apprediated.

I think you mean Sub-Device instead of byte 2. Audio/0135 uses the NEC protocol with Device=210, Sub-Device=109, Parm=28. It looks like Audio/0101 is Device=210, Sub-Device=108, but the parm is CB.MrChuckP wrote:From the forum I have learned that all component codes have byte 2 as 109. You can try programming Audio/0101 to another device button, and then use the direct EFC entry method (SET-#-#-#) to see if that code (060) does the DVD input you're looking for.

Mark, you are correct it is Sub Device not byte2. I tried your well thought out suggestion. Infact I applied the logic to all codes for Amps and audio which had Onkyo codes associate dwit them. Unfortunately the Onkyo did not respond to any of these attempts. I am at a loss as to where to go from there. Any other thoughts?

Chuck, could you please clarify whether you are looking for a JP1 or non-JP1 solution.
You have posted your question in a JP1 forum, which would imply that you are looking for a JP1 solution, but your "without resorting to soldering" leads me to believe that you have not modified your URC-6012 and are therefore NOT looking for a JP1 solution, in which case we should move this thread to the General forum.

You are correct. I have not modified toe 6012 to date. It appears however, that I will have to add a connector to the 6012 and then implement the JP1 solution discuissed above.
I cannot see another way to get a DVD function implemented on this remote. It will be a good learning experience.
Feel free to move this thread to the general section if you think it is appropriate.

The URC-6012 needs more than just a connector, it also needs an EEPROM chip and a wire soldered across the JMP2 spot.

It might be easier to just buy a modded 6011 or 6131 from Rob. See this thread.

Well I really feel like a newbe on this and guess I am. I further chased down the effort required to convert a 6012 to JP1 compliance and found if is more effort than I had anticipated. I located Robs pictures and documentation on Yahoo and read them closely. I also have ordered a JP1 cable.
We like the 6012 because of its size and ability to program 1 macro to turn on and off the units (keeps my wife happy). Would like a more comprehensive macro function but that can wait.
I have several of these 6012 remotes (bought them before I read these forums) and feel I must do something with them, so I will attempt to conver them. Lets see if I can solder. if not Rob may get a call.
there is a point which I have missed and maybe one of you can give me some guidance. When a set of codes is loaded into a JP1 compliant remote (say by me into the 6012 for the Onkyo) are the existing codes lost? Do I have to reload all the codes or only the new ones I have created.
Thanks to all of you for your guidance and direction, it is much appreciated.

The "built-in" setup codes are in ROM. Before you use JP1, that's all you have.MrChuckP wrote: When a set of codes is loaded into a JP1 compliant remote (say by me into the 6012 for the Onkyo) are the existing codes lost?
You can't change the ROM contents. ROM is "Read Only Memory".
JP1 reads and writes the EEPROM, which is much smaller than the ROM and can hold just a few setup codes.
If a setup code is in both ROM and EEPROM (same type and same 4-digit number), the EEPROM copy stops the remote from seeing the ROM copy. But the ROM copy is still there and can be made visible again by removing the EEPROM copy.
