I'm trying to program a urc-8811 to control a tv (JVC code 0053), a cable box (GI code 0476), a dvd player (PANASONIC code 0490), and a vcr (SONY code 0035, the code on this says PANASONIC though). I used Keymaster.xls & Devices4.xls to enter the discrete codes to control each device (except the VCR) and then imported them to IR.exe then downloaded it to the 8811. when I do this the only device that works is the cable. I've tried this about 5 different times and it still wont work besides the cable. I followed the directions in JP1 for beginners ver 1.1, at least as best as I could. Is there anyone who could help me get this to work. Would it be possible for me to send the saved .txt files for someone to look over. I got my cable on Friday and still haven't got anything besides the cable to work, I'm not that technically savvy and get lost very easily.
Another thing I was wondering is that when I transferred Keymaster.xls to IR.exe with just programming the 3 devices I've used up most of the move/macro memory(?), there is only 84 left, and I still have the VCR to program and a ceiling fan to learn to the remote, will I not have enough room to add the VCR, ceiling fan, and set up some macros.
Thanks
I need help

Zip up all your saved .txt files and post them in the Diagnosis Area over at Yahoo. Then post a link to the file here.

The correct way to post the link would be: my setup.zip

you are using lots of key moves (@ buttons and shifted buttons).
these are memory hogs...avoid if you can. i found macros were not that expensive
when you consider what they do for you but its 5 bytes per key move.
you've got 12 for tv and 11 for dvd and 4 for cable.
that's 135 bytes already. you only get 219 to start for moves + macros.
when i'm picking buttons i look at @ and shifts as a last resort.
maybe leave some functions unmapped.

Here's what I see wrong:
File "Mary's_DVD.txt" has no Device or Sub-Device entries. The standard VCR/DVD_0490 code uses 176:0.
File "Mary's_TV.txt" has no Device code. TV_0053 uses 3.
That's probably why the upgrades don't work. Most protocols require device codes and/or additional parameters (entered on the Setup sheet in KM).
In addition, the TV upgrade has functions assigned to the phantom and shift-phantom buttons. Phantoms do not physically exist on the remote, and are generally used from within macros (of which there are none in your IR file).
Can I ask why you're using upgrades when those setup codes are built-in? Is it because you want to customize the button mapping to something more suitable? If so, you need to go to KM's Buttons sheet, assign the functions to the buttons of your choosing, and delete any that you don't want.

This remote isn't for me, it's for my aunt. I want to set it up so all she has to do is press a device button to turn on everything (example when she hits the CBL button it will turn on the tv, turn on the vcr, and then switch the video input on the tv to video 2 then switch to cable protocol, since there is no descrete codes for the cable box I'd leave that on all the time), That's why I programed the phantom keys. I just went over JP1 for beginners and I did miss where it said to enter the sub codes, sorry about that, i'm going to redo it with the sub devices and try it out. I have a couple more questions should I ask them in this thread or a new one.
Thanks
