urc-6131 and 8 devices

I have read that the 6131 is actually an 8 device remote..Could someone point me to a how to set up and use the other 2 devices.

And by extension, I just tried this out on my 8820 (an 8-device remote that shares internals with a 10-device) and programmed SAT onto Shift-CBL and accessed the AUX2 device by putting a macro on Shift-AUX1. Should work with the 6820, too?

Yup, and it will also work with the URC-6011 and the old URC-6800 "Cinema 6".

What about the URC7555? - the European JP1.2 remote (5 devices) that seems (according to RM) to have 15 Phantom keys. Are any of them really hidden device keys given that it looks suspiciously like the URC7780 which is a 12-device remote?

Do they share an RDF? If they do, then yes, if they don't then probably not.

Similar, but not the same, RDFs alas. I'd asked only because a few people on the Toppy forum (for UK Topfield 5800 PVR) seem to be using URC7555s and it'd be a shame to use it as a 5-device remote if it could be coaxed into operating up to 12 devices. I had a shot of a 7555 but didn't like the rather membranous buttons and so I gave it away. I've not seen a 7780 yet but images of it suggest a family resemblance.

For what it's worth, the 8820s I bought are proving a hit with me and at least the eldest child (9-yr old gadget-oriented boy). Haven't yet worried too much about lack of an extender for the JP1.2 remotes but those acres of free learning memory in the 8820 are just crying out to be converted to move/macro and upgrade memory.

Even if a remote doesn't have hidden device buttons and even if it doesn't have an extender, doesn't mean that it can't control more than the advertised number of devices.

If you have devices like video selectors, etc in the mix, these typically don't need to use up a whole device button. They can usually be programmed here and there using keymoves.

If you have two complimentary devices, that you often use together and they don't have too many overlapping buttons, you can use the device combiner to mix them into a single upgrade. I do this with my CD player and stereo receiver.

And of course, there's the Device Multiplexor, which lets you stack multiple setup codes onto a single device button. This is most useful on remotes that have learning buttons or macro buttons. For example, if you have 2 or 3 DVD players hooked up, you might stack them all onto the one DVD button, and then use the learning buttons to select the correct one.
