I have a JPI modded URC6131- When I hook it up via JPI to Ir.exe, I see a Dev7 and Dev8 as Device Buttons even though my remote has only 6 device buttons - Is there any way to access and use these on this remote(if so how), or are they just there for use for other models of URC remotes and merely show up in JP1.
Secondly, I have 4 buttons at the bottom of the remote, PIP, Swap, Move, and Setup, but can't seem to assign any codes to these buttons. Are these assignable as a keymove command only, or something.
Lastly, does anybody know if somene sells remote button decals that can be used on the buttons of a remorte, or on the casing to describe the button, if I want to change the use of a button(I know what buttons I have, but nobody else in my family does).
Thanks,
mh

You can access the Dev7 and Dev8 devices by creating macros that invoke those device keys. For example, you might create a macro on shift-DVD that is assigned the key Dev7. It'll be a little different if you are using the extender, but that's the basic process.
The PIP, Swap, and Move keys are only included in the button map for TV devices. They can be used with keymoves in any device mode.

If you got the remote from me, there should already be 2 macros programmed that access dev7 and dev8.

accessing Dev7 and 8
I did get the remote from you - and Dev7 and 8 show up under the Device Button section of the General Tab, but there is nothing under the "Macros" tab(should there be? If so, I have been downloading various upgrades so I might have accidentally deleted them) What button(or shift command) would be used to access Dev7 and 8 if you programmed it, and if I accidentally deleted the macro, what would be an example syntex of the macro. Sorry for my basic ignorance, but I have been playing with so many feature that I am getting more confused. The Robman wrote:If you got the remote from me, there should already be 2 macros programmed that access dev7 and dev8.

As you know there are only 6 device buttons, but as you also know, you can include device buttons in macros, people do it all the time for things like:
TV, POWER, VCR, POWER, etc, etc
So, pick 2 buttons that you don't mind being dedicated dev7 and dev8 device buttons. If you're not a Tivo user, maybe the two thumbs buttons would be a good choice. You could also use a couple of shifted device buttons (meaning you would press SET, DVD for dev7, for example).
Once you've picked the buttons, all you need to do is program a macro to each of them with one step, that step being "dev7" or "dev8". In case you hadn't noticed, tboth of those exist in the drop down list of buttons.

Will extended 6131 allow macros programmed to device button
I am not sure what the problem is, but I can't seem to get a macro for Dev7 or 8 to work right- but I am sure its just me. Test Example: I created a macro on Shifted-Cbl/Sat button to Dev7, and then entered my AV reciever upgrade code of 0158 to Dev7, assuming if I press shift(Set) then Cab/Sat button, I would have control of my AV reciever - This test did not work(But my code of 0158 entered in Aud device mode works fine, so its not the code, its got to be the macro). What am I not doing right.
Aside from that, I ultimately was hoping I could create macros on an unshifted Device key that would set my AV reciever to the proper video input mode, and then put the remote into the appropriete dev mode. For example, when I hit the DVD Dev key, it would set my AV receiver into DVD input, and then put the remote into DVD mode. Even if it sends the AV a signal to change to DVD mode everytime I press it, that shouldn't be a problem. I wrote the macro to DVD, as "AUD, Play(Which is where I have the DVD input assigned to on my AV dev mode - ran out of buttons), and then DVD."
No luck, but if I understand correctly, Macros cannot be assigned to any Dev buttons, right. If I load Extender for this remorte, would I be able to do this. I know I should be able to do a long keypress of DVD with an Extender, which would work but is not really what I want. I am hesitant to load Extender as it sounds very complicated for this remote, and I want to first make sure I am maxing out the capabilities of the unextended remote and really need it.
So what are the limitations for macros on an unextended remote, and would the Dev keys be available for macros if I extend it.
Thanks

I can't spot your error from your description, so I would need to see your IR file. Click on File Section above then load it into the Diagnosis Area, then post a link back here.
Without an extender, you can program macros anywhere except the SET button and the device buttons.
With an extender, you can program anything, anywhere, including programming macros to the device buttons.

Then an extender it is
Wow - That was a quick response, better than any paid tech support. Since these were just tests, I wont bother with sending the file yet, since I am going to need to go the extender route anyways and redo it all (And will probably have a whole new set of problems). The Robman wrote:I can't spot your error from your description, so I would need to see your IR file. But one quick question that is not really relavant to my problem - the only macro I have that is working on the remote is the "Power up all Devices" that I programed directly into the remote(to turn my TV, Aud receiver, and Tivo off and on by holding down the power button inputed as described through the manual's instructions(Not using JP1). It shows up in IR when I download the remote contents, as merely "TV,AUD,PVR", mapped to the power button. Why does this macro not have any power commands in it (such as "TV,Power,Aud, Power, PVR, Power"), and how does the macro know this is a long keypress to activate, and does this mean I can use long keypresses for other buttons too besides the power button on this unextended remote.
As always, your assistance has been tremendous .

It's because they have put some special programming in for the POWER button.
