Need Help with Toshiba TV / DVD Combo Unit

My mother in law received a toshiba tv/dvd combo MD13P1? It did not have a remote, so somebody gave her a small Philips PM4S. I was able to go through the codes to get the DVD to work, but never could get the TV buttons such as channel/volume, etc. to work. Does anybody know the setup code for this remote to get the TV to work? I searched high and low and found nothing.

As an aside, I looked through the files and did NOT see an upgrade for that device. I have JP1 for myself so I could get another small remote and program it for her. I obviously don't have the original remote, so learning it would not be an option. Assuming these two come together, can somebody please suggest a small, inexpensive JP1 remote that is available at the general outlets, with the pins please.

We've never seen a Toshiba DVD/TV combo unit here before, so I looked it up in the URC-6131 manual and it lists it as using DVD/0695 (which is NEC2, device code 113).

If you're looking for a cheap option, you could give here the non-JP1 version of the URC-6131, then you could program any missing buttons using advanced codes (which you may have to find the hard way). The best JP1 remote for this would be the modified URC-6131, which you can get online from Surf Remote Control).

The cheapest JP1 remote that you can get in the stores is the URC-8810w from Walmart, but it's quite a big remote, so you should take a look at it first before deciding on whether it's the right remote for your MIL.

The radio shack 15-2142 lists a toshiba TV/DVd combo code, its DVd 1935.

Unfortunately, we don't have any additional info on that setup code, so I can't tell you how similar it is to the DVD/0695 code. I notice that the 0695 code isn't present in the 15-2142, which might mean that the 1935 code is a replacement for it.

Thanks people,

DVD/0695 worked great on this device ... I was not able though to figure out how to get to the screen that lets you add and delete channels. If it is the same as my Toshiba TV, there is no obvious way to get to the menu. I would guess there is an advanced code, but I did not have time to try so many codes.

Back to my original post, the only remote I got to work was my 15-2117, the other "generic" remotes did not do anything for the television part, though some worked for the dvd part.

Ok, so I got the 6131 (unmodded) and again used DVD/0695. That made just about everything work. I finally found the code for the MENU key that is needed to add and remove channels, set picture prefs, etc. It is 107. I never did figure out what code was the enter key (how do you do that, since the enter key doesn't do much until you have a number typed in). I am just not fast enough. Anyway, would it be best if i made a list of the buttons for the Advanced Codes Section? Lastly, does the 6131 store settings somewhere non-volatile or is everything lost upon a battery change?

Usually it is not lost.

The RAM takes incredibly little power. There should be enough capacitance to keep RAM contents for several minutes while changing batteries. But be careful not to press any buttons while batteries are out, and if you spent a long time programming, I'd change batteries a lot faster (than minutes) to improve the odds of memory contents surviving.
