Daewoo 5900 upgrade code
I uploaded a Keymap Master file to the file section with an upgrade for a Daewoo 5900 DVD player. If anyone out there has one and would like to help me out, I would like some feedback on the button layout or if the thing even works for you. It's based on codes captured from the original Daewoo remote with a URC-9910.
Here is a link to the file (I think I got that right ...heh)

I have a couple suggestions:
1) If it's really Device number 0 (from the decodes) put that into the "Main Device" field on the setup page. Many setup fields are best left blank when the default is correct (such as SubDevice if the decode showed no subdevice, or Parm if this is ordinary NEC1). But leaving the Main Device field blank makes us guess whether the device was really decoded as zero or whether you didn't understand to fill it in.
2) You can (SHOULD) change the function names in column A of KM's functions sheet. The initial set of names is just there as a convenience to save you typing time if they happen to be right. I see that you wrote correct function names in the Description column and left wrong function names in column A. Description is for other sorts of information beyond the basic function name.
As for button layout comments (as you asked for). I think that is personal preference and the least important thing to do well for sharing an upgrade. It may be important to do well for using the upgrade yourself, but I don't see how someone else could tell you much about how to improve that. It depends on how you want to use your remote and your DVD.

Ok, I finally had some time to do a little more playing and I cleaned it up a bit, thanks again for your help John. I am beginning to understand kemap master a little better.
disforw, please, download it and give it a try, I would appreciate any help or suggestions you might have.

Hmmm, that's interesting. They are all NEC1 codes, if the power on works, I would have thought they all would. I have heard that Daewoo is good at re-branding their equipment. I wonder if maybe they had two different manufacturers for the same model. Are you sure you have a DVD-5900 and not DVD-5900M? Any one else having this problem?
Check to see whether you have a learned signal, KeyMove, or macro defined on that power key.disforw wrote:i dont know if its just me or what but...
only the 'POWER ON' button works here, cant even power off. I know i am a Newbie but i would think that more of the device would work.
If you don't really have the same model, none of the commands would work, including power. Understanding why power on works would help us understand what the rest of the functions should be.
If it isn't obvious when you look at that, post your .ir file (the version you tested to discover that just power on worked) to the diagnosis folder and post its URL back here.

Given the rather random nature of NEC1, Dev0 devices isn't there a 1:256 chance that power will work even if two devices are completely different otherwise (so long, of course that they are both NEC, Dev0 as many cheap DVD players seem to be)? In fact, given that not all the OBC codes are used in NEC1, Dev0 devices I'd think that the odds are actually a fair bit higher that you'll find two different DVD players with the same code for power (or any other arbitrary function).johnsfine wrote:If you don't really have the same model, none of the commands would work, including power.

Ben, I know you're a rookie, but you need to learn a few dos and donts regarding using an online forum. The more effort that we have to go to to just understand your question, the less likely we are to bother.disforw wrote:https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2377
In this case you have posted to a thread that hasn't been active in 6 months and all you posted was a link to a file. Many of us would just assume that the file is a working upgrade file and would skip to the next thread. I see that you've actually written your question in the file description of the file...
Also, I notice that you have posted to this thread before, albeit 6 months ago.disforw wrote:so everything works fine exept the downloaded DVD codes. but the wierd thing is the POWER button works thats it.!
You are basically making "code search" request, in which case you should be using the Code Search forum and using the mandatatory template. The answers to the template question give us the info we need to help you. I see that the IR file that you posted is from a URC-8910, which is a learning remote, which prompts the question: Do you still have the original Daewoo remote? If so, we would need your answer to the learning remote question.

As this thread is SIX MONTHS OLDdisforw wrote:https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2377
If no functions other than the Power On work, then this file is of little help, since you have nothing in your IR file besides that single DVD upgrade device.
If you are using the KM file linked to further above, there's no reason it shouldn't work IF IT'S THE RIGHT FILE FOR YOUR DVD player!
Also, since you have a learning remote, the easiest thing for you to do would be to learn a few signals and see if the decodes match what you have in the KM upgrade file. There was some discussion that the device number should be 0 whereas your upgrade uses device number 128.
All this is speculation that you yourself can resolve by learning and decoding your own signals. If you can't determine what your learns decode to, then post the IR file with the learned signals and link to it here and someone will take a look.

But it isn't device 0. It is device 128.underquark wrote:Given the rather random nature of NEC1, Dev0 devices isn't there a 1:256 chance that power will work
If I understand the beginning of this thread correctly, an incorrect upgrade was initially posted which did not specify the device number. Based on the wrong guess that the upgrade had been tested, I assumed the device number must be zero.
The .ir file finally posted has no learned signals, KeyMoves, nor Macros. So none of them can explain the Power key working.
Device 128 with obc 1 has an interesting bit pattern that makes me wonder if it could be misinterpreted by an IR receiver as some other signal entirely. But even so it would be a massive coincidence if one power command were misinterpreted as another power command.
I took a closer look at the various JP1 and CCF files for DVD players using NEC1:128.
There are at least two different code sets in which obc 1 is fast forward and at least two in which obc 1 is power.
There seems to be a lot of overlap in which obc numbers are used, so that if you had a different code set with obc 1 as power, and you tried all the other buttons, I would expect several of them to do wrong functions (as opposed to doing nothing, as we would assume from your minimal description). Maybe that happened and you didn't mention it. If so, knowing the wrong functions done by a few buttons would help a lot toward identifying the code set.
