Export a Device from IR

Post by nigelbe »

I have a device and a protocol which I got by telephone upgrade from One-For-All support.

Some of the device buttons have not been programmed but I have the codes for them (again from support). While I can and have got them working using key-moves I would really like to be able to work on it in RemoteMaster.

Is there a way of turning the hex back into somthing I can use?

All the best ...

It's fairly easy for one of the experts to create a protocols.ini entry and an rmdu file from such an upgrade. But the process isn't easy to describe (several decisions are probably needed in the process that mix both expert knowledge and the specific contents of the upgrade).

So post the saved eeprom image (from IR.exe) containing that upgrade to the diagnosis folder and post the URL back here. I'll give you the two resulting files.

Here ya go: {deleted}

When you're done patching it up, please re-load it, maybe with a better file name that includes the brand and model of the device, then I'll delete this file.

I believe Nigel wanted this for RemoteMaster rather than KM.

Is there any significant difference between this upgrade and the sky+ upgrade for RM already posted in
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... Satellite/
?

If there is a necessary difference, tell me and I'll look into it further and construct a better rmdu file. But for now I'll assume the existing one does the job.

In any case no change to protocols.ini is needed because the upgrade from UEI, the manual mode upgrade Rob posted and that rmdu file are all RC6-M-20n protocol.

I forget how to get the subdevice number from Rob's version or UEI's version. That RMDU file is subdevice 12. If it doesn't work then the first change to try would be using subdevice 0 instead.

To head off confusion in advance: The UEI version of RC6-M-20n protocol is in Rob's KM upgrade, while my version of RC6-M-20n is in protocols.ini and thus in the result of the rmdu file.

The two versions use EFC numbers the same way, but I don't think they use fixed data the same way (they better not because RM doesn't generate the same fixed data as the KM version).

If no one made any mistakes the two versions produce the same signals, but the RM version does so using less upgrade memory.

Over in RC there has been much more discussion of Sky+ including the claim that the brand and model don't matter (The IR signals are the same across all brands of Sky+)

Hey Nigel,
John seems pretty keen to help out here, so to avoid stealing his thunder, I've deleted the file I created and will let him take care of it from here.

I'm no RM expert, but I was under the impression that it could read and process KM files, and as I can't run RM during the day my only option was to use KM, but I stand corrected and have deleted the offending file.

You tell me, you seem to be the expert, I just converted the upgrade in his IR file into an upgrade file, helpful soul that I am.

Again, you're the expert, you tell me. I know nothing, Mr. Faulty.

Wow, you really are the all knowing, all powerful, expert with this particular device, man if I'd known I would have stayed well clear of this post.

Hey Nige, you're obviously in good hands. Go for it Johnny, convert his upgrade into an RM file for him, would you.

I probably should have tested that with your file. I don't know how well RM deals with Manual mode KM files.

Nigel or someone else might be able to answer my question. I didn't convert his upgrade. I just noticed the similarity of pid and EFC numbers to an existing upgrade for another sky+ device and remembered the claim in RC that all sky+ are the same.

I hope you're not as offended by my posts as you sound. I didn't intend to imply what you did was wrong, just to add what I had seen in the folder of RM upgrades and at RC.

Thanks to all.

I will try the Sky+ file this evening - I can't imagine how I missed it.

Just for interest although there have been revisions which have added extra peripheral functionallity there are only two SKY remote formats.

The Original:
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/store ... tId=112585

and the PVR SKY+:
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/store ... tId=105030

There are also some toys which seem to work with either

A remote with a keyboard:
http://www.sky.com/skycom/skynavigator

and a GamePad:
http://www.sky.com/skycom/skygamepad

Thanks once again.

All the best ...
Nigel.
