Official update for Onkyo receiver and questions

I have recevied a WAV file upgrade to update an URC-8350 and make it work with an Onkyo HTX-22HDX A/V receiver. Well, in fact the update is for HTX-22HD but it works ok. I have tested the file OK and then I played a little with IR 8.03 and RM 20.1 and have seem how to decode and recode the WAV file adding EFC codes to look for discretes, but I'm quite lost at the way on how to look for the discretes for this device, I will like some ideas on how to best approach the process, as this doesn't seem to use the standard pronto hex codes I have seem in the web, those decode to 3 digit EFC and this thing uses 5 digit EFC.

I've looked at this upgrade. It uses an undocumented executor called $017E which appears to be an NEC combo protocol. Your upgrade appears to combine signals using NEC1 device 210.6 and NEC1 device 210.7, where the 3 volume buttons use 210.6 and the others all use 210.7.

Here are the EFCs that I found in the upgrade.

183 - vol up
187 - vol down
184 - mute

250 - 1 (prev input)
246 - 2 (next input)
250 - AV (prev input)
246 - Guide (next input)

051 - Power
001 - Menu
254 - OK
255 - Up
003 - Down
252 - Left
000 - Right
002 - Exit

You could create a new upgrade using the NEC 4Dev Combo protocol, which is built-in to the URC-8350, and then try adding EFCs from there.

Thanks for reading and for the prompt reply.

I was also looking at that and comparing with a file called onkyo-receiver.zip on RC . That file contains pronto codes that, decoded with Pronto IR Tool, said stuff that seemed to make sense but I was still figuring how all the protocol, device and subdevice works. Now I see that and the info you gave me match perfectly so I must be on the right way.

But I have been working on this for several hours so I'm going for some fresh air before trying what you said

Realize the 5 digit EFCs used by your remote will be different from the 3 digit ones. Just start building an upgrade in RM using all the protocol, device, subdevice and OBC info and it will calculate the right codes for you automatically.

Do you have a link for that file at RC?

Also, do you have a JP1 cable or are you doing all this using WAV files?

I'm currently programming through WAV, but if necessary I *think* I can solder a cable -not really good at soldering but doesn't seem too complex-.

Newer version of the Onkyo Spreadsheet from Jason at RC. Use the Mediafire link. However, I think the HTX series use slightly different subdevices from the ones in the spreadsheet.

I have to leave for a journey until sunday, when I come back I will try to combine the information from the spreadsheet and the subdevices info from the upgrade file to try to produce an update with as many discrete codes as possible.

Back home. Some quick test and HDMI1 and Power Off discretes have appeared, will continue trying these days until I have the complete list to upload.

By the way, how did you now the correct device and subdevices IDs?

Almost there. Third column of pronto codes on that spreadsheet is a good match most of occasions, but I can't find discretes for Dig2, Dig3, Line2.

Also, Next Input and Previous Input fails even if they work ok in the limited OFA upgrade -they are mapped alternatively to all 0 to 9 buttons in that upgrade-. Tried to change subdevice and between NEC1 or NEC2 witout success. Any idea what can I be doing wrong?

Well, they're definitely NEC1 in the original upgrade, whereas they're NEC2 in your upgrade. They're also assigned to the AV and GUIDE buttons in the original upgrade, do they work on those buttons too?

Trying NEC2 came from trying to direct input the EFC5 code IR reported just for discarding.

Quite late right now to program stuff through wav, tomorrow will try. I'm sure they worked ok on the original update using the 0 to 9 numbers, but can't remember to try those ones. Willl report back ASAP.
