Issues trying to get back into JP1 with new hardware and pc

* HTPRO URC-9811B00 - NO extenders
* Win XP SP3
* Tommy Tyler's Original JP1 USB eeprom plug (newly aquired)
* Current IR and RDFs
* Tried the new and 2007 drivers for above plug as mentioned here https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10146

Ran IR and loaded RDF folder and installed plug correct way - Test connection was positive

Before I did anything I TRIED to download FROM the remote my current/prior configuration and got the following error:

"It appears that the interface failed midway into the operation. This problem can occur if the interface is faulty or if the EEPROM you are trying to read is larger than $8000 (the maximum size supported by IR)."

I've never seen this before or had this problem with old Parallel port plug on older XP machine.

Looking for some trouble shooting
A) PC
B) Software
C) Remote
D) Plug

Start with new batteries. The USB style interface is dependent on the remote's batteries.

NO luck... I can try more batteries later

FYI: Tried a BRAND NEW remote fresh out of box with 2nd set of batteries (not original) and same error.

UPDATE 2: Brand New batteries in Brand new remote = same error...

I downloaded all three and tried the oldest one first. That work! Go figure, maybe Delcom has been busy trying to get things working with Vista? I'm fat and happy now, but if you need to know, I can try the other drivers when I have more time.

Currently Have 2006 drivers...

New Error:
The EEPROM size detected by IR ($1000) is incompatible with the value specified in the RDF ($800). IR will use the detected value, but if this is incorrect, then uploading to the remote will cause the EEPROM data to become corrupt. Please confirm the size of the EEPROM in your remote before proceeding.

Once again this is the NEW remote with NEW batteries.

I hit ok and so far so good...

DL'ed from a programmed remote (no extenders). It seems to be successful.

Its a little late and I'm a bit loopy but Hopefully the above error is minor...

You shouldn't get that error message.

First be sure you're using the latest IR versions and RDFs.

As far as I can tell, your HTPRO should have $800 as EEPROM size, and it should be using this RDF:

CPT0CPT0 (URC-8910(Old)_9910(Old)_8910(New)_9910(New)_HTPro).rdf

For some reason IR is detecting a $1000 size EEPROM

You can see if it's caused by a corrupt EEPROM by doing a Manufacturer Reset, which may fix it.

Make sure you download and save your Setup first, as this will wipe the remote clean !!!

If the problem persists, upload your IR file in the diagnosis section.
If you could also do a separate "RAW" download of the remote (after a MFR reset), that might help an expert see what is going on with this download.
In IR, select Advanced>Enable Raw Download and then download the remote and upload both this file and the file you saved above to the diagnosis area:

by using the "Upload" icon.

(don't forget to deselect Advanced>Enable Raw Download afterwards in IR)

Then post a link to the uploaded file(s) back here, so someone can take a look.

could you please describe your XP computer with lots more detail to compare notes. Make, model, processors - one, two, more?, what USB ports, what USB (1 or 2), and anything else you can think might be useful.

I am particularly interested in whether your computer uses the Open Host Controller or the Universal Host Controller for USB.

Please do Start, right click on My Computer, select Properties, Device Manager, and scroll down to the USB controllers. You should one or the other (although if you have added a PCI card both could be present), and an Enhanced Controller. The Enhanced Controller doesn't matter.

It's not 100% clear to me what this means.
The little plug is designed to use the JP1.2 or JP1.3 cable. Designed for flash remotes, but with the little plug is used for JP1 eeprom remotes. That cable+plug combo uses FTDI driver.
Tommy originally had a USB cable for JP1 remotes which used the Delcom drivers. I hope you're not mixing the two.

THIS is what I recently aquired.

I'll post the other info for people when I get a chance.

Asll seems to be working with the oldest delcom drivers suggested on this site.

Very good, thanks. So it's the Delcom-interface cable not the JP1.2/3+eeprom plug.

Now, can you please post your USB description soon. It's simple, just right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device manager
Find USB section at the bottom and post a screen shot over at image shack or as a document in the Diagnosis area here.

- USB Root Hub (x2)
- USB Serial Converter

Have JP1 USB, IR widget and an external hub plugged in atm and my cell phone.

Not sure if this helps - never had anyone ask this before

XP SP3
Intel Core2 Duo
E8500 @ 3.16hz
3.17 GHz, 2.75 GB of Ram

I do get a few random connection error, but I'm use to that from my old parallel port cable - And I'm using the older JP1 USB Delcom plug
