Oh, no......

I see another extender in my future. If someone wants to donate one of these guys to me for a couple of days so that I can figure it out, I'll get a quick assessment of how difficult it will be to write the extender.

Otherwise, I guess I'm going to have to get one.

No they are just arranged differently. I think it has one more key than the Atlas OCAP, which will probably make it a pain to extend with xshift keys.

As long as they didn't do something stupid (like they did with the 15-13x keymaps), there is a wee bit of room in the OCAP keymap to allow for Xshift on the extender. I understand why they did what they did on the 15-13x so that they could have the same firmware in all three remotes, but it really made doing that part of the extender a pain since there were more than 32 keys defined. The OCAP doesn't have this issue.

Oh, it was the RadioShack remotes that gave you problems with the xshifts. I couldn't remember.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

The sickness has caught up with me....

I see that they have the RCA version in stock at the local best buy. I can see a stop at the store on my way home from work tomorrow.

Anyone know if the RCA version has the pins in it? What about the OFA version? I really should get both of them so I can figure out if they are the same inside so that an extender will work for both

Ellen's pics show that it does have the 6-pin (and the advance info that I had was wrong), so dig out one of those Best Buy gift cards that you've had sitting around! :)

A couple of questions (if anyone knows):
1. Can we do macros on device keys like the Atlas and 1067?
2. Extra device(s) possible (like the 1067)?

WITHOUT an extender of course!

No RDF yet, need to start working on that.

More as I learn more

What did you pay for it at BB?
Did it truly have pins?

Price was $19.95 at Best Buy like Rob said, same as the on-line price (plus tax, of course)

Yes, as has been mentioned it has pins.

I'll upload probably tomorrow. I've been working on it. Remote "feels" a lot like an Atlas from how it uses memory. That's good from an extender standpoint.

If someone gets the OFA version can you verify that this has the same signature?

Just FYI, I'm getting the feeling that the RCA remote wasn't meant to have a 6-pin, so don't be surprised if it goes away at some point. Plus, I wouldn't expect any of the new RCA/UEI remotes to have 6-pins.

I'm not expecting OFA to change their policy though, where the cheap remotes don't have 6-pins and the mid-range and up remotes do.

Plus, of course, once the Xsight finally hits the street, which it should any day now, we'll have a new breed of USB connected remotes, which will open up a whole new challenge for us.

I just uploaded the IR file here: dload.php?action=file&file_id=7051

I haven't had a chance to dissect it completely yet. It appears that this is an 8-device remote! Awesome, one serious reason to use this over the Atlas!

What I have been able to figure out (no RDF yet) is:

$60A is the start of the device table, pretty standard
$649 is the start of the advance code area, through $7FF
$800 is the private area checksum, $802-$9FF is the private area
$A00 is the upgrade checksum, $A02-$11FF is the upgrade area
$1200-$19FF is the learn area

The setup area is really long and there is a lot of stuff in there that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Oh, one more thing. It doesn't appear that the setup codes have an "offset" like the last RCA remote (RCU810). The default for the TV is $0560 which is an RCA TV setup code in standard UEI remotes.

Gotta stop working on it for the night, other stuff to get done
