comcast urc-1067a or -1067b?

Post by crosstalk »

Hello. I have a couple of questions about a comcast urc-1067. It looks like a 1067a jp1.2 (gray select button), but the connector silkscreen makes me think it might be a jp1.3 remote (header pins marked 1003). I have an old serial cable from diygadget (jp1.1/jp1.2), so I'm reluctant to connect it. Should I just open the IDC connector and remove pin 5? I don't have any jp1.1 remotes anyway. How does one pry to open the IDC without damage?

Thanks,
Rich

connector silkscreening:
1003
5 1
6 2

label information
RC1475501/00MB 63295
CIFA No. 19100
MADE IN CHINA COB

If your DIY interface has a black IDC connector rather than beige, I recommend that you give up trying to open it and instead just cut wire #5 as close to the connector as possible. If the connector is beige (or gray) color I can tell you how to open it.

If the IDC is like the one in the pic below

I would recommend that you separate and cut the #5 wire in the spot indicated below, this has proven to be the easiest way for me to modify these cables:

Thanks. Yes, it's a black IDC connector, so I'll try to breakout the #5 wire from the ribbon cable near the IDC.
