IR codes for SlingCatcher

Post by Lanza »

This might appear to be an unusual request but I'd like to be able to IR control my SlingCatcher with a Slingbox.

OK, before anyone asks.......

Location 1: Slingbox1 taking AV from satellite receiver slinging to.......

Location 2: ....SlingCatcher (output to TV) and Slingbox2 taking AV from SlingCatcher slinging to.......

Location 3 : ... PC / Slingplayer

You'd think it would be easy!

It's a set top box that takes in SlingStream over the internet from a Slingbox and presents it as AV, direct to a TV. It has it's own physical remote so the whole package is designed to behave like a TV set top box.

I guess it's "SlingPlayer in a box" with a remote control as opposed to SlingPlayer on a PC with a virtual remote.

I just did a quick search and it appears that it's a Sling product, which means they should know what the codes are, so I'll ask them.

Ya, Rob has some contact at Sling Media. He ain't telling who.

Actually, I would like to know the answer to your question also. Probably not for the same reason.

Sling just got back to me and said that the Slingcatcher is available as a code in Slingplayer:

Miscellaneous > SlingMedia > SlingCatcher

Here's the JP1 upgrade for it:

To get your Slingbox to control the Slingcatcher, which I think is what you want to do, you don't really need to do anything other than select the Slingcatcher code in Slingplayer (as you would any other device).

The JP1 upgrade is just for people who want to control the Slingcatcher with a JP1 remote.

OK. I got some codes to work (I haven't tried them all). I used RM to create a .bin file (did I need to?) for the RV chip. (UK)

I'll now need a new virtual remote for Slingplayer because there are some special buttons. A job for tommorrow (UK time)

Thanks again.

Like I said in my last post, you didn't need to do any of that.

Rob, Nuke12
SlingCatcher is NOT in Slingplayer, at least not in my version which is 1.5.0.322 and which update says is the latest. (If it was I wouldn't have been here in the first place!)

Edit: Although Update says I've the latest build I found there is a version 1.5.1.355 which I've now got - but SlingCatcher is still not there.

And I've already asked Sling Media European support who says it's not available and not likely to be available.

I wonder if it's a US/European thing?

2nd Edit:
After digging around I discover there is a Slingplayer version 2 which is "for the United States only" and is a secret here in Europe. However I've downloaded and installed it and hey presto SlingCatcher is supported. But it wants to install an update to the Slingbox SOLO firmware (1.2.6 to 1.2.14) and I'm worried that if I do this it will turn into a US model!!
