My company upgraded my laptop and the new one didn't have an LPT port so they gave me a PCMCIA parallel port adapter. I've got it configured for LPT1 but IR 714 can't see it. Is there anything I can do or should I get the USB cable.
Thanks!

Have you verified via any other means that the card is working (like connecting a printer or some other device).
I don't know that anyone else has used a PCMCIA card, but I think it should work in theory. However, a USB cable would be simpler (and cheaper than buying a card, if you didn't already have one).

Well, no. I don't have another device I can use to check to see if the card works. I only asked my company to provide the parallel adapter because of the JP1 need. I might just bite the bullet and get the JP1 USB adapter. I did look through the configuration of the device to make sure it was set to the right address range (it wasn't) and IRQ number. Still nothing. Oh well. Thanks. The Robman wrote:Have you verified via any other means that the card is working (like connecting a printer or some other device).

If you do buy a cable, be sure to get a JP1 "EEPROM" cable rather than a JP1.2/3 "Flash" cable.

This is not a PCMCIA card but somewhat the same idea.
A lot (actually most) of the new desktops do not come with com or parallel ports. I purchased a MosChip PCI 2 serial and 1 parallel port. Both com ports work great but hardly anything works with the parallel port. Yes, it works fine as a printer port but little else. I have several apps like IR requiring direct access to the port and none of them work. I've tried everything to get them to work. IRQ, no IRQ, different I/O port ranges, still nothing.
This does not solve your problem but you are not alone.
