I finally plan on replacing my 6-year old computer (P3-1000, Win2K) with a new one (Q6600, Vista). As is typical with new computers, there is no parallel port. I did get it with the serial/PS2 option for now. I also know I can probably add a parallel port card, depending on how many PCI slots are open when I get it.
I'd like to know:
1) Any issues with Vista and IR/RM/KM+Excel2007? I'll probably set myself up as Admin level with UAC turned OFF.
2) How well do the USB options work? It seems as if standard USB-to-serial cables work well with JP1.x. How well does the USB cable for JP1 work with Vista?
I currently have several JP1 remotes (8810, 8910, 6131nw). The only JP1.x is a Comcast remote that I never use anyways.
Windows Vista and JP1/JP1.x

Even the older driver worked ok as long as I unplugged the cable and re-plugged it after each operation. I just installed the new driver from delcom and it works just fine. Just make sure you run in administrator mode to make sure it works properly. Beware running with UAC off, some admin functionality actually doesn't work with UAC off. I've had better luck with UAC on and running selected programs in Admin mode than with UAC off.

I should have updated this long ago.
I ended up buying a parallel port card. It works fine after I manually entered the port address in IR, since it's not one of the stock addresses. I haven't used it much, so it's not fully tested. The only real use was to move my DVR's 30-sec skip to a new key, as the COM SKIP button on my main remote is getting flakey, despite several attempts at cleaning.

I am using a abit mb with no parr or serial ports.
I purchased a Rosewill RC-303 card, installed it, and Vista 64 set it up with irq=none or 22, I/O=BD00-BD07.
I am using Vista 64, and the program will not recognize this port...get error message that no parr port installed. I have tried the adm rights, and even set up MS virtual pc with xp and vista32 but MS V pc does not recognize the i/o= BD00 and I have no way to change it. So VPC loads with no ports available.
I can not change the i/o in vista64 as it is greyed out.
Anyone have any suggestions.

How do you do that?alanrichey wrote:Simply run IR.EXE in WINXP Compatibility Mode.
I'm not using Vista, but in case it isn't obvious, it would be nice to document how to do it, just so the next guy doesn't spend hours also.

Not having the same luck
First off...system os and specs
q6600,6gb,raid0,and 650gb second drive.
Running Vista Ultm 64 on Raid
Have a partition setup on second drive for Win7_32
Old homemade LPT1 connector and two 88xx remotes
I have managed to get ir to work on the Win7_32 os by setting:
using a MOSchip PCI Parallel Port with settings for port
Filter = Use any interrupt
do not check "Enable Legacy PlugnPlay"
Ir.exe set to compatibility mode = 95,98,nt,xp, Does not seem to matter which one as they all work...also set to run as admin.
In Ir.exe set parallel to other and insert your lpt1 resourse...ie BD00
Ir works fine, connects, downloads, etc...even tried both versions 6.1 and 7.15...both work fine.
Problem:
Vista 64 SP1 (which is my main system)
Same settings for everything...even tried a few different, and I always get this error "no response from interface message".
Note: In Vista64 I did have to go into the services area and "start" Com+ system Apps. Before doing this I would get an error message "Unable to initialize drivers for any JP1 interface.....etc...Problem with NT port driver, unable to start" Once I started the com+ service, this error went away, but I still get the "no response from interface message" for any attempts in Vista64.
I would really like to get this working...If someone as any suggestions, please respond.
