Next Generation Remote Extender - Base Unit Died

Post by IBNobody »

I have 2x Next Generation Remote Extender base units. One of them died on me yesterday.

I found that TC4 had shorted. I assume TC4 was a tantalum electrolytic 100pf SMT capacitor, and it looked like it was being used as an input smoother for the voltage regulator. I replaced it with a standard 50V 1uF electrolytic capacitor. (It was overkill, but in this case, bigger is better.)

The TC4 short took out the AC adapter. I found that the primary winding (120AC) had burned out to open.

If you own one of these units and you find that your unit is dead, check that cap.
