I'm setting up a remote (8910) that will have 2 Panasonic devices. I found device upgrades for both in the files section, but one uses the Panasonic Combo2 protocol and the other the Panasonic Mix Combo protocol. The first uses device 128, subdevice 0 and the second 144, subdevices 0,1, and 5. Am I correct in thinking I can change the first to use the Panasonic Mix Combo and then make a Mix Combo protocol, set up with devices 128 and 144 and subdevices 0, 1, and 5 and use that one protocol for both pieces of hardware, thereby saving the memory required by the Combo2 protocol?
Thanks for the help.

I don't understand what the first combo is combining. You said device 128, subdevice 0. That sould be a non combo protocol.
Assuming you mean it is device 128 with a few different subdevice, which subdevices and how many signals are not subdevice 0.
Depending on which subdevices you need, probably you could use the same combo protocol for each upgrade and save one protocol upgrade. But you might save even more using a non combo, even if that needs a few keymoves.
Also, I might be misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you still intend separate device upgrades, so you don't need to combine device 128 and 144 even if you use the same protocol for both. The device number is in the device upgrade, not in the protocol upgrade.

Is your goal to combine these 2 devices into a single upgrade, or are you just looking to save memory?

I'm just looking to save memory. I don't know why the first upgrade used the Combo2 protocol, since it only uses the one subdevice, and could probably have used the non-combo protocol, as you pointed out. It does sound, from what you said, that I can just modify the first one to either use a non-combo protocol which (?) is in the 8910, or change it to use the Mix combo, which I need for the 2nd unit anyway.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Your best move would be to post your IR file, and the KM/RM files that you used, in the Diagnosis Area, then one of us can see whether you really need to be using a protocol upgrade.

I don't have an IR file set up yet, just working on the device upgrades first. The first device (the one using the Comb2 protocol) is from the file Panasonic_TH-42PWD7UY.txt in the Device Upgrades/TV section of the Yahoo group file section. (For some reason, its not in this sites files). The other device is Panasonic VCR PV-V4524S at

As long as we're on the subject, the VCR upgrade doesn't show any discrete power on/off functions. Anyone know if the Panasonic VCRs from this series had that ability?
Thanks

They generally don't, at least my Panny VCR doesn't. We did discover a code that we thought was a discrete on once, but then we discovered that it was really resetting the unit so you had to re-program in the channels, so suddenly it didn't look so attractive.rickspindrift wrote:As long as we're on the subject, the VCR upgrade doesn't show any discrete power on/off functions. Here's a link to the yahoo file...

On further review, there doesn't seem to be anything that I can see that requires the Panasonic TH-42PWD7UY upgrade to use the Panasonic Combo protocol. The Panasonic protocol seems to be just fine as far as KM is concerned. Anyone see a reason why this doesn't work? (I'm doing this remote for a friend, so I can't just try it out, as I don't have the equipment).
