2 Errors Downloading Atlas 5 Remote

Post by MikeD2 »

Well, finally got my JP1 cable today - yea ! Installed the IR program & RDF's and things seemed to be going well until ........
I got the following 2 errors trying to download:

1) THe EEPROM size detected by IR ($800) does not match the RDF ($400). The value in the RDF will be ignored.

(assume this is OK and will not impact the upload)

2) There is a conflict at fixed data address $0017. Do you want to replace the existing data with the fixed data?

(I answered "no" to this, but not sure what might occur if I try to upload)

Download seems OK, it captured the KMs I had previously manually input.

Any help, tips, advice on how to proceed would be appreciated, the .IR can be found here:

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4462

Thanks !

PS. Almost forgot, this is an older Atlas 5 with the "settings" key not the newer "day" key.

It looks like you have a version of this remote with a 2k EEPROM chip on board. If this is the case, the following RDF should work for you:

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4463

However, I'm not sure if IR has corrupted the checksum or not.

Here's how you can get a good, clean download from your remote...

1) Select Advanced > Initialize to $FF
2) Do a 981 reset on the remote
3) Select Advanced > Enable Raw Download
4) Select "General" tab
5) Click "Raw Download" button.

Save that file and post it for us to look at.

Thanks Rob !

Will the 981 reset wipe the settings I've manually entered into the remote (I assume so)? Will I be able to reload or recover my settings from the .IR somehow ?

I've not attempted to upload yet and the remote is functioning normally.

I loaded the RDF and Opened the .IR (remote is not attached). The 2 errors went away, but as you suspected, I did get the checksum error:
( expected #30 $CF, found $11 $EE).

I got the checksum error also opening the file, but I don't know if that's because IR changed the checksum when you downloaded the file. I want to know if you also get the checksum error when you download from the remote. If you do, just change the end of the checksum range from 7FD to 3FC in the RDF.

If you save your current IR file, you can restore after you've done the 981 reset.

Hi Rob -

Had to wait till today to continue - I'd have a family insurection on my hands if I took the remote away during prime time

I tried the 2K RDF 2 ways:

1st was as-is and it gave me the a checksum error (as you anticipated)
(Bad Checksum @ $000, expected $37 $C8 found $16 $E9).
Here is the .IR it produced:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4465

2nd was the 2K RDF with the modified checksum you provided above,
this attempt was error free - here's the resulting .IR:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4466

Did you still want to see the results of a 981 reset ??

Assume this last attempt produced a usable .IR I can save as my baseline ?

Thanks much !

Yes, I'd still like to see the results after you've initialized to all FFs and done a 981 reset, as this will give me a better idea of what the 2nd half of the EEPROM is used for.

And yes, you now have a good back up that can be used to restore all of your current programming.

Did not recieve acknoledgement from remote after sending device address, errno = 1, param =168

Argh !

What were you trying to do when you got this error?

I was trying step 1.

I tried again & now the remote is totally dead, when I try to download the 'good' file it gives me a signature error then the 168.

none of the buttons work now

Well, i removed the batteries & reinserted them & the remote seems to be working again (even tho it got the 168 error when I reloaded)

Think I captured what you asked for here - let me know if it's not what you wanted:

That file shows the EEPROM full of $FFs, but it doesn't show any evidence of the 981 reset.

Ok, I think I know what went wrong. The remote went unresponsive after the Init so it ignored the 981 reset. No blinks happened when I pressed Set & I wondered if it had actually done anything.

I'll give it a go again tomorrow and do the 'remove the batteries' trick between the Init & reset.

Any thoughts on the 168 error or should I just ignore it ?
Remote magically seems to be working again dispite my fumbling around !

If the remote is working, and all of your programming still appears to be present, even though the EEPROM has been initialized, it tends to imply that the remote is ignoring the EEPROM and running from the RAM. If the EEPROM contents got corrupted some time ago (ie, the bad checksum that you keep seeing), that would explain it.

If you are successful in doing a 981 reset, you will restore the EEPROM in active duty, but you will also clear the RAM, so you would need to re-do your programming. If you have been running from the RAM, the backup files that you saved earlier won't contain anything that you can use to restore.

Hmm - the remote did recover the 19 Key Moves & other programed items when I reloaded from the .IR with the corrected checksum. At 1 point I did get the 981 reset to take (just not following the Init) & I verified that all my programming was gone (devices no longer turned on/off & key presses caused no actions).

Until I started this thread with you I had done no programming other than manually via the 994 Key Move function, so not sure how the eeprom could have become corrupt. Of course, could have come that way from TW cable.

So, the backup appears to be good (would hate to think I needed to 994 all 19 entries again) in spite of getting the 168 error during the upload.

I'd still like to see an IR file taken after the init and 981, if possible. Does this remote have learning?
