simple parallel cable problems with urc 8060

Post by fatheralice »

I have read all the guides etc, and have sucessfully used IR to access my urc 7562.

My main problem is I am having real trouble getting it to work with my (two) URC 8060 remotes. The cable I got off ebay from diygadgets comes with the 6 pin pogo attachment, but with the 8060, it is tricky to keep the batteries attached, whilst using the cable. I have used some tinfoil to create the contacts, and I did manage to get the interface to work briefly, however, I can't any more.

I have tried with fully charged batteries, and reversing 1 2 or 3 of the 4 batteries, plus removed them all.

Also changed the delay to 16000, all to no effect

The only parallel port I have is on my laptop.

Anyone got any tips on getting it to work with a kameleon?

Second question

I have some wav files that OFA emailed me as I was having problems downloading by phone - The ones with several device codes on eg (Sat 1625 Sat 1308 VCR 1839 Tuner 1623) do not open in IR - I get an error message of unknown block type, whereas the simple single code ones downloaded from the website are fine.

I have 3 seperate wav files for individual devices I have downloaded, but can not see a way to merge the 3 into one large wav, which can then be sent by jp1 - any clues?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers, Ali

Hi Ali,

I'm no expert, but I do have both a URC-7562 and (just recently) a URC-8060. I built my JP1 cable a couple of years back (simple parallel) and it works well with the 7562.
I had a bit of trouble maintaining the connections with the 8060, but after building a pogo pin adapter and a battery connector that holds the batteries in place while leaving the JP1 holes exposed, I now have no problems.
I'm using 4 new batteries (all the right way around), and also a laptop with the same settings as for the 7562 (port 3BC, 0 delay).
I realise this isn't a lot of help, apart from reassuring you that if your cable works with your 7562 is should also work with your 8060.

Regards,
Tango.

PS. Can't help with your WAV question, sorry.

Assuming you have a working connector for this remote, why not load the 3 files into IR.exe individually and copy/pasting the information from the devices/protocol etc. tabs into another instance of the application? You don't actually need one large wav if you just upload it using the connector...
