Problems keymoving to mute/fav on 8910

Post by krismillerl »

I'm trying to make my 8910 a little more PVR-friendly by remapping:

Mute -> A
Fav -> B
Prev -> C

in CBL mode. It's really the most logical place for A,B,C... I was using the L keys for a while, but they are on entirely different ends of the remote... it just doesn't work very well for the way I use my controller.

So I modified a RM file to map those three buttons. As I was mapping my other buttons from RemoteMaster the mute (A) and fav (B) would occasionally lose their value of A or B. I never really figured out why, I just played with it until when I hit save, I had A, B, and C all set up as above in my RM file.

When I copied them into IR, because Fav was not available in CBL mode, it was converted to a KeyMap.

Unfortunately, C (prev) works fine, but A and B (mute and fav) still have their original function. Where did I go wrong? ( I used RM, so I'm assuming the 2-byte problems I've been reading about in similarly titled threads is not an issue)

Below are my IR and RMDU files:

Incidentally, why are there so few Universal Remotes that have PVR buttons on them? I got my girlfriend one yesterday that had PVR buttons, but it didn't have the JP1 connector. Can I get a recommendation for a PVR jp1 remote that has the connector already built in? This one's fine for me, for now, but when people come over, they're gonna have no idea where a,b,c etc are...

Thanks again!

Taking Mute (A) as an example, it is mapped to

Key Hex EFC
----- ------ -----
Mute F7 117

It is also "Learned" on CBL:L1.

1 Panasonic_Old 27 --- 47 F7 or F6 or F5 117 or 125 or 101
2 Panasonic_Old 27 --- 47 F7 or F6 or F5 117 or 125 or 101
3 Gap-862-2314-22? 251 37 64

I don't really understand the learned notation... like why it has 3 entries... and how it deals with "OR" values, but at the very least, F7 117 is in the learned codes as well...

Hm. I just realized Rob sells these things, and better yet, sells them pre-modded... I might seriously consider ordering the 6131 (mod) soon...

When VPT is 'On' then Vol+, Vol- and Mute retain their set functions.

Fav and Com Skip are special buttons with their own built-in behaviour and to re-assign them you need to use the 8910 Extender.

The MUTE and PREV buttons were included in the upgrade. However, you have VPT turned on in SAT mode, so the MUTE button is punching thru to your receiver instead of your CBL box. You should use a keymove for that button in SAT mode if you want to keep the regular volume buttons programmed "as is".

The FAV button is a special button that usually can't be programmed with a keymove, so if your keymove isn't working, I'm assuming that this is true for the URC-8910. We have a special protocol that let's you program the FAV/SCAN button. I have loaded this into your IR file and fixed your keymoves, so try this...

Note: If the FAV/SCAN button still doesn't work, try assigning the upgrade code to the CBL button and then try again.

Thanks Guys! That IR file you gave me worked great. Only one problem - I have no idea what you did and I want to be able to recreate it in other ir images...

For Mute, you added a keymove to override the punch thru. I'm cool with that.

For Fav, you removed the keymove I had, but what is the "special protocol" you used to fix the problem? Is this "special protocol" the 8910 extender that UnderQuark mentioned? Also, how do I know what keys are "special" like FAV?

Thanks again. I really appreciate the help!

The FAV key is the only special key on this remote.

I used the Special Protocol spreadsheet to create the special protocol that I loaded for you...
