CaptureIR Freezing

Post by Strom »

So far I have managed to capture remote codes using Digitrace but have had no success with CaptureIR. When I first run the program the setup button is greyed out. Is this correct ? On pressing the start capture button the ready light flashes but once the interface receives an IR signal from a remote CaptureIR freezes. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't have any effect and a hard reset is needed.
I'm using xp sp2 , java 1.5.0_06 and allowio to set the parallel port.
Since I can use Digitrace has anyone an idea of why CaptureIR is freezing?
Thanks

I keep trying to find some time to work on CaptureIR. But in addition to not finding that time, I also was working on my own modified version of CaptureIr, not the "official" version.

I think I posted my version somewhere (I'll try to check tonight and give you more details). My version has totally different lowest level capture (the part most likely involved in the freeze you describe) so it might just fix your problem. My version also has lots of extra diagnostic output, that I need to remove most of because it is too big a load on slower CPU's, but meanwhile that might help find your problem.

When I last used CaptureIR, I was trying (failing) to determine why CaptureIR and Digittrace both failed to control parallel port pins on the computer I wanted to use, even though they could both read pins on that computer and control/read pins on other computers and IR.exe has no trouble controlling pins on that computer.

Thanks John for your offer of pointing me in the right direction.
The only thing I've discovered about my own PC setup is Digitrace will only work with the parallel port set as SPP, EPP or EPP/ECP in the bios. If its set to ECP, the default, Digitrace ignores the port. CaptureIR freezes on any port setting. I've had to feed my IR sensor with an external 5V source as the parallel port was only giving out around 4.2V....not quite enough. I dont think that would cause any problems.
I originally posted this in the beginners section because I thought I was missing something obvious and I've been using JP1 tools for a few days.
