This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!
create a temporary upgrade which contains all the functions that are not currently listed as being for your model in my cross-reference spreadsheet and test them all.
Rob, ignore my previous message about criteria for checking HE100/200 codes for your composite. I've come to grips with the HE200 info by looking at the Panasonic book on their website. Now I need to mop up and will, likely, post file(s) tomorrow.
Can't wait to read about the resolution of Tom's adventures.
I uploaded the zip file to the Diagnosis Folder Toms1995.zip
The files that work are for the Panasonic SA-HE200, and the files that don't work are the SA-HE100 (and others). I named the files GOOD and BAD.
Cheers,
Tom
Thanks for the files Tom. If you look closely you will notice that the two KM files have different protocols selected, the "good" file uses "Panasonic Combo" while the "bad" file uses "Panasonic Combo2". While the difference in names is small, this is all we have needed to know earlier on in order to track down your problems.
If you want to use any of the other files now, all you need to do is change the selected protocol and KM will take care of the rest.

Wow, that's great Rob!! I didn't notice where in KM to select the protocol, but now that I know what to look for, it shouldn't be that hard. I'm looking forward to checking this out.
I was hoping to report good news, after changing the protocol, but no luck. I tried all the different Panasonic protocols. I should say I had partial success with the Panasonic Combo2 protocol (and the BAD file), but only a few buttons would work. So I guess I will just stick to the SA-HE200 upgrade file and assume I'm still doing something wrong that someday I might figure out.
Anyway, I hate to give up, but I guess it's time to close this thread (unless of course Elizabeth needs to continue pursuing her problems). I would like to thank Rob, Elizabeth, John, and everyone else who contributed. It's time to start doing some actual programming. I hope to start creating macros, keymoves, etc.
Thanks!
Tom
PS - I realized I could actually predict if the file would work before uploading because after changing the protocol, I could look at the functions tab and see if the correct Hex code was entered. For the power key, for example, I got several variations, but never the correct one. I then tried to enter the code manually but that didn't work.
Rob,
Your composite spreadsheet about HExxx models is updated http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... des-v2.xls.
It includes working notes which you can/should toss.
I left data in your columns intact.
I added several rows of functions which were missing.
I added a column for the tests on my SA-HE100 and flagged where my use or values differ.
Not sure how best to present it - it almost calls for flags in yahoo-file-specific columns.
Having just gained several functions, I also posted revised upgrade for SA-HE100 (Panasonic Combo2), http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... 0[egd].txt
After all the testing, I switched my upgrade to Combo. What a sorry affair! It confirmed what I saw when I started this jp1 adventure two months ago - most functions did nothing.
Tom, I'm baffled by your situation and have nothing else to suggest since I barely know what's going on. So long as the HE200 code works for you, you'll be ok. Have fun and good luck!

This thread has become confused. Title indicates combo2 and 15-1995 remote. By now combo protocol has come into it. Everything I've written is about URC 8910 remote.
Confused or not, this is all very interesting.

I agree we've gone off on tangents, but at least there has been a common thread throughout.
I do have a question for you, since we both have the same receiver. Did you ever get a discrete on/ off command to work with the SA-HE100? That function shows up in your file, but not the one that works for me. If you did, what is the code?
Tom,
I cannot make'm work. They're in the file from HE75. I'm keeping them in my file for the record ... and dreaming they worked. They work on my TV!
While you were busy defeating your remote, Rob made me do some work on codes for HE100. So look in the posts 1-2 above. In the updated composite spreadsheet you'll see what codes worked for me. I think it would be fabulous for this collective knowlede if you did the same experiment. Just add another column next to mine. And indicate protocol you used.
My apologies, it was from the HE75 file, not yours. I'm also sorry (for both of us:)) you couldn't get discrete on/off to work. I have a hunch that our receivers don't support that function (don't ask me why it is in the HE75 upgrade).
I tried to look at the spreadsheet you posted the link to earlier, but I got a message that the file isn't found. I just tried again by pasting the url in my browser and it worked. Now I went back through your previous posts, but I'm not sure what the spreadsheet is for. Also, the pull down boxes don't seem to work (not sure what to do with them). I would be glad to add to the general knowledge once I figure it out.
I also reread one of your recent posts...you tried to switch protocols? Which one works best for you (I think there was an error in your posting).
I suspect discrete ON/OFF is in the HE75 upgrade because it came from another file, advanced codes list, experiments, or puting in all functions 'cause it maybe useful to someone else. HE200 contains the biggest set of functions, some of which you can't use, some you won't assign to buttons, but they do no harm.
COMPOSITE SPREADSHEET ISSUE
Do you have Excel version 95 or higher? was that excel7 then or 5 or 8 - I never figured out Bill Gates' versions...
1. Pull down boxes: are you referring to Filters in the header row? - just push on the down arrow, it gives you selection for entries in that column, you can just select rows where it says "Y" or whatever is in the list or write your own custom incantations. I think filtering has been around since excel5 or 3?
2. Rob organized the list in the Subdevice-OBC sequence, which is really cool. And you can quickly find things here faster than in KM, since KM's sheet protection also shuts off filters and finds.
3. Reason for the spreadsheet is that it appears there are several files for this family of receivers, lots of function codes, and Rob was trying to simply show us what's there. I then went in and added/checked off what worked for my model and protocol. Reread Rob's message and answer, above.
4. What is not clear to me from Rob's compilation of existing files is which protocols pushed the codes out to the receiver. I see this as a matrix. But I'm too fuzzy on that, so one reason I played with this is to learn.
5. How to use it? SPREADSHEET DOESN'T CARE. You can check off against your HE200 list in your Receiver what works, what doesn't. You can just add a column next to mine and you don't have to go thru the comparisons as I did. You can use it as a reference. I used it to update, organize, sort, etc and popped a new function list, in the sequence I like, into KM.
PROTOCOL ISSUE:
You asking me?? I shouldn't be meddling with advice in the first place. I got involved here because you went through exactly the same troubles as mine.
No idea if I did it correctly. I was just fooling around. Given my KM data, on the Setup sheet I just changed Panasonic Combo2 which works, to Panasonic Combo (thanks for seeing the error, I just fixed it to "combo"). Then I watched KM recalculate both the upgrade and protocol (much shorter), used it and it didn't work well. If you know the meaning of the very few chip commands, you can see unassembly of the protocol in IR. I don't and don;t intend to. It's been too many years since I pushed bits around...
BTW I noticed that your "BAD" file in the zip set is one of those I, too, started with - has 1518 setup code. I almost gave up on jp1 due to it not working. So it's BAD for both of us.
Thanks for clarifying the use and data in the spreadsheet. This is great! I use Excel (2000) but I've never used the filter before. What a great tip. You sure did a lot of work on it. Although I must say that I hope it doesn't take 2 months to get it where I want it. At some point I'll either accept it as is, or go get a new one. Either way though, this is good stuff to know. And of course it wouldn't be as fun as hacking into these things.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who had problems with that upgrade. Maybe it should be marked with a caution that some users had trouble with it. But I still can't figure out why yours won't work in my remote.
Anyway, I'm now trying to learn keymoves (a topic for another thread) and the best way to set up the remote for my system. Toads seem like a good thing to learn about too. Uh-oh, 2 months is starting to sound reasonable!
