some progress but more questions

Post by tonydix »

Here is what I hope to acheive :-
On a urc7557 the Tv button should control Toshiba 26av502 , the vcr button should control AZAmerica Satellite s900 box, the dvd button a coolsat 6000 sat box,and the sat button an AZBox HD Premium satellite box. (I am a satellite junkie !!)

I have found various upgrade files that relate to these units in the master file index.

I seem only to be able to get ir to communicate with the 7557 and then I can use either KM or RM to modify the upgrade files and then ir again upload to 7557.

So here are the questions :-

The 7557 is presently full of all sort of key moves and learned signals what do I do about them ?

Do I just do one upgrade then check then do the next upgrade or should I attempt all 4 upgrades in one pass ?

Thanks to all who have been helpful to me. It is appreciated.

It's going to be very difficult for any of us to answer this question without knowing what the various keymoves and learned signals are for. If some of those are there to support your AZAmerica Satellite s900 box, for example, if you were to add an upgrade to control that box instead, you most likely won't need them anymore.

If your current remote does something useful for you, then it is a good idea to just save that file somewhere safe, so you can restore the remote exactly as it is, as a backup.

In a situation like yours, I often start with a completely fresh image (that I saved) or do a reset to factory conditions and then start fresh. Install the upgrades, either one at a time or all at once, whichever sounds less confusing to you. Test each device to see that it functions as you expect and fix the upgrades as necessary. Observe what happens to Keymoves as you install the upgrades, so that you understand what is going on. If I have done a lot of that sort of work, with a lot of changes to the upgrades, then I will start fresh again and install only the upgrades as I have changed them, this will clean up any keymoves that may no longer be necessary.

With all the devices installed and working as you want, it is a good time to save that ir file as another backup and then start working on any special protocol functions or macros, testing as you go.

Ok so some more progress thanks. I now have tv on tv key and azamerica working well on vcr key, I even found an error in the AZAmerica upgrade and have corrected it. ( Not sure how to offer the correction to everyone)
Now when I try to add the AZBox upgrade in ir I see nowhere where I can assign the upgrade to the sat key on the 7557.
When I pasted in the code for the AZAmerica I was offered the chance to assign a key, subsequently when I try it for the AZBox no offer was made !!
Many thanks

That tells me that you must have had keymoves that were part of the AZAmerica upgrade, so IR needed to ask you which device button you intended to use because it needed to know where to put the keymoves.

I'm guessing that the AZBox upgrade didn't include any upgrades, so it wasn't necessary in this case. When you add an upgrade, think of it as adding one more setup code to the hundreds that are already in the remote. So, if you want to assign that setup code to a device button, you would follow the same steps that you would for any built-in setup code. In IR, that means go to the General tab and enter the device type and setup code next to whichever device button that you want to program.
