Even the older driver worked ok as long as I unplugged the cable and re-plugged it after each operation. I just installed the new driver from delcom and it works just fine. Just make sure you run in administrator mode to make sure it works properly. Beware running with UAC off, some admin ...

My experience has been that you MUST be very careful that you don't have any other active COM devices at a lower device address than the JP1.x interface. In particular, I have had trouble with built-in modems and bluetooth serial ports.

I found that if I made sure that the JP1.x interface is lower ...

The original design of the remote limits which keys can be included in an upgrade. The L's and M's can't be included in an upgrade, but can be defined by keymove.

As a convenience to ordinary users of JP1 cables, KM allows keys to be defined that cannot be included in an upgrade. Then KM includes ...

Not to a laptop. I don't use desktop computers anymore, they are just too tied down (I like to use my computers whereever I may be). However, it is nice to know that they are available if I run into a need on one of the family computers for a serial or parallel port.

Thanks,

I'm actually referring to running IR under Vista at all. The Vista security system doesn't allow access to the function layer used by the USB cable's driver. The ONLY applies to Vista using USB from my testing, but I don't know what the case is with the parallel interface since none of my computers ...

A point to keep in mind is that with Vista you will need to set it to run as administrator for the USB cable to work (oh, and make sure that you have the latest version of the driver (3.x IIRC) as well). I also find that I have to disconnect and reconnect the cable in between each session or it ...

And with wine (or one of the Mac specific flavors of wine) you should be able to get IR to work in the Mac OS as well.

Make sure you don't have anything running that might try to take control of the port. Also make sure you don't have something like a modem before the usb-serial adapter. A good way to do it is to change the port number using device manager to change it to com1 or com2.

Actually, unless your Walmart is different than the ones in my area they don't seem to carry any JP1 remotes anymore.

If your in the area of any Fry's stores, they do carry some of the JP1 units, of which my personal favorite is the 8910/9910. You could also order one from Rob, which I would ...

PDF may be more reliable, but outside of Linux, finding free ways to generate PDF files not always easy to do. I know there are multiple products out there, but many of them that most users can easily find are pay for. I personally would recommend RTF for pre-release documents at least, since just ...

Yes, tell it that you will choose from a list, then click on "have disk" and point to the inf file you want it to use. It was the ONLY way I was able to get the newer driver to install.

Did you do the have disk thing with it? I found that the newer driver would not be found unless i forced it to try and install that one.

Not only is the comcast remote made by UIE, depending on the model it's either JP1.1 or JP1.2 and it nicely configurable. I just wish it could be made to handle more than 3 devices.

Assuming from context all of this is about the delcom driver, the 2004 inf is paired with driver version 1.x.x (1.something) and the 2005 inf is paired with driver version 3.1.something. The 2004 driver doesn't work for me under Windows Vista, but the 2005 driver does (as long as I run IR with admin ...

Just in case anybody else is interested, I have uploaded an RDF, image and map combination for my Vizio remote. Thanks to Binky123 for creating the RDF for me which enabled me to finish the process and create the image and map files.

The package might be a little rough in appearance, but has worked ...
