okay, popped it open aain. the cip in question says :

Though I think this will be all for naught as it appears pins 3 an 5 are not connected.

One thing that does have me curious is what was supposed to go in that spot on the square area right of the UEI chip ...

I have a little torx screwdriver (T5?) that I bought years ago for takig apart my cell phone. Also works goof for fixing ipods.

You could always get a USB TO Serial adapter cable.

Hi, Just bought a Onkyo tx-sr603x that comes with the onkyo rc-623m remote. When I went to put the batteries in there is something that looks darned near identical to a JP1 connection.
