It is now working. I don't know what the heck I'm doing with it, but at least the computer is communicating with the remote.

Tried that, quite some time ago. The test program won't reccognize it when it is upsidown. When it is correct, it is reccognized and even identifies the remote.

I've even checked to see if other COM ports are falsely "in use"

I'm not ready to give up, Just not sure what to try next.

device manager also confirms the driver is correct and up to date.

Think I'm making progress. I have solved the previous error messages from windows vista. Even though I am logged on as the administrator, I had to right click on IR to launch and tell it to open it as an administrator. Damn, I'm learning to hate Windows Vista.

OK, I ran the test and read the troubleshooting guide. Everything checks out and the cable is working properly.

Still get the same messages. I think it is a Windows Vista problem. Any suggestions?

I have already added IR to the accepted program list on the firewall protection.

Ok, I got my interface, hooked it up to the computer and remote, installed the driver, unzipped all the files. I opened the program and clicked download from remote and get the message:

Do I have a security setting somewhere that needs to be adjusted?

Thanks, I have actually done some of these things already. I was careful to order the correct cable that will work with my remote. And I have now downloaded the specific RDF for my remote.

I'm slowly working my way through some of this. It's a lot of info! But I'm game to learn, not easly ...

Yes, I have downloaded the RMDU files that are closest to my devices. Sorry, I'm a little behind the curve on terminology! I'll start playing with the program as you have suggested.
