mine also has 6 pads above the battery compartment.
There seem to be a number of threads (mostly quite old) trying to work out if onkyo remotes are jp1ish as they're quite nice (the only problem being I keep picking the thing up upside down)

A little more info about this remote
It uses codes listed in the manual availible for a number of Onkyo models

scroll all the way to the end and then skip back a few pages... pg 80 is the start of "other product codes" not that they mean much without the hex they ...
