Atlas DVR 5 (Day) JP1.3 WITHOUT Learning

Post by josep01972 »

Hi,

I keep reading hints that it is possible to turn this remote into full learning mode by adding the components that are missing, but I have not been able to find full schematics on the subject.

Has anyone been able to do this? If so, can someone please post schematics/how tos?

Thanks

These are pretty new remotes. You need to find somebody with a learning variant to open it up and take pictures of the PCB and then compare it with yours and add the missing bits. I have not seen such a photo on this forum yet.

OK. I will be out of town for about a week, but right after I will get on it. I'm pretty skilled at soldering so it will be neat to be the first one to do it, I guess.

I looked at this for my Atlas JP1.2 1025 using the JP1.3 3000 learner as reference but never bothered to look for the components.

Code: Select all

    JP1.3   JP1.2  JP1.2
    3000    1025   8820 Schematic
J1 =0       000    J4  LRN Enable.

R13=105            R31 1M
R12=102            R32 1K
Q3 =1AM            Q31 MMBT3904 first transistor
C7 =               C32 10pF
R14=103            R35 10K

R18=102            R33 1K
C18=               C33 10pF
Q4 =1AM            Q32 MMBT3904 middle transistor

R23=102            R34 1K
Q5 =1AM            Q33 MMBT3904 last transistor in learning circuit
R20=103            R36 10K
R24=103     103    R37 10K
C6=                C31 0.1uF
R3 =101            R38 100ohm    R3 labelled R1 on JP1.3

R35=115     103    10K
R5 =1R0     2R2

Success! I had to place an order from an electronics supplier, anyway, so I added the necessary components to my order. It came in today, and I soldered te components in. It worked perfectly. Instead of a backlit, NON-learning Atlas, I now have a learning function as well.

it would be great if you could provide pictures and an estimated cost

This is great news for those of us who have Atlas' and don't have learning!
this JP1 stuff is a sickness!

I can confirm this info is valid also for the Atlas OCAP 1056.
I managed to convert mine into a learning one for a few bucks...

Code: Select all

Part                  Desc             Digikey p/n
J10                   0 ohm
R12,R18,R23           1k 1/8w          P1.0KACT-ND
R14,R20               10k 1/8w         P10KACT-ND
R13                   1M 1/8w          P1.0MACT-ND
C7,C18                10pF             399-1108-1-ND
C6                    0.1uF            399-1167-1-ND
Q3,Q4,Q5              MMBT3904         MMBT3904FSCT-ND

Some of these parts might be salvaged from old video cards, I did not order the 0 ohms resistor, since I reused one that way.

Beware that it takes good soldering skills for such a project. At 6$ a piece, he's surely not making much $$$ doing them...

I just did this to my JP1.2 1055 and it works as well. The only thing was I could not find a J4 or J10 anywhere on the board, it only has J1 which was already jumpered on mine. I also did not install any of the capacitors since I don't have a LCR meter and I was stealing components from dead equipment :)

Did someone post schematics on where these items need to be soldered, etc. I need a mini project for myself and plan on picking up a couple Atlas OCAP 1056 off of ebay along with a USB JP1.2/.3 cable from Tommy.

When you open it up the component locations are all silk-screened so all you need to do is plop the parts listed above in the right spots.
