Hello,
So I've JP1'ed a few years ago for my URC-8811. It worked great but the envitable has happened, my remote changed it's last channel and has commanded its last dvd. So I went out to buy the URC-10820, thinking that it would be as simple as getting the latest rdf's and whipping out my home made jp1 cable and boom, upload my custom upgrades...alas it was not to be, my IR just wouldn't communcate with it. Then I starting reading threads on here about this remote not being supported and terms like JP1.2??? Indeed this new remote has JP1.2 on its board so the million dollar question...am I SOL with my old JP1 cable? Am I better off just trying to find the URC-8811 in stores?
Fingers crossed,

Good luck finding ANY JP 1 remotes still in any stores. Rob still has a stash that he sells (see the sticky post in the Marketplace section). I'd recommend either of the JP 1 remotes he sells (8910, 9910, or 6131). If you get a JP 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 remote, you need a new cable (serial interface only - but works through a serial-USB adapter) _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

Thanks for the quick reply Cap...
So I build my own (http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3585) or buy one huh?
Is it backward compatible? Can I use the JP1.2 cabel for my urc-8811?

Nope
The JP1.x is a serial interface while the JP1 is really a 2-bit parallel interface (clock and data) The communication is entirely different.
So, for the older remotes you need the older JP1 cable, for the newer remotes you need the serial cable. _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |

Cool. Fine with me, the new cable is on the way.
One last question, why the heck can't I find the urc-10820 rdf in my updated list? Are we not using rdf's anymore either? |

The URC-10820 shares an RDF with the URC-8820 (much like how the URC-8811 shared an RDF with the URC-8011, etc). _________________ Rob

It should be in the "main zip file of RDFs". It's called "10631063 (URC-6820_8820_10820).rdf" |
