Up until recently, I've been doing my JP1 work on a laptop with a fully implemented parallel port. You know, a printer port, like the ancient people used to use :-). Anyway, my new laptop doesn't have an LPT port. Instead of buying a USB-JP1 cable I figured I'd get a USB to printer port cable and use my home made parallel to JP1 cable. The problem is, this cable shows up in device manager as a "USB printer device", not an LPT port. Is there any software solution for me or do I need to get a USB-JP1 cable and be done with it?
Thanks

The simple parallel cable (nor ANY parallel JP1 cable) will NOT work via a usb-to-parallel adapter. To use your new laptop, you will need a new USB JP1 cable.
If you go to JP1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. there is ONLY a serial cable available, but IT works via a serial-to-usb adapter.
